"Now, wait a moment" says Nodis "Your homes are here, there's only a handful of orcs left and they have no leaders. Why would you want to go to Braeroll, when we can kill or drive them off? Is there something we should know?"

The soldiers take charge of the refugees, and find them beds in straw. They pull out kegs of beer, stored dried meat and grain to feet people. They ask for advice fixing the front gate, which looks like it would require tools and equipment not currently available.

One of the soldiers then reports, "Um...one of the dead bodies fell into the well. The water if foul."

"I can help with the tools and materials" says Nodis "Though that wll take the last energy I have within. And theyll last just a few hours, five or six."

ooc: With psionics mnor creation and using overchannel/talented, Nodis can create up to 6 cubic feet of wood (and that's a lot) which lasts 6 hours, and his Astral servants can come with tools, and stay for 1 hour. With that and some nails we could repair the doors, at least for the duration of the powers; let's assume if you don't mind he manifests Minor Creation 3 times and brings a couple Servants with hammer and saw, spending 5 power points (1 pp remaining)

If that's enough Nodis looks for a place to sleep - it's been a long time since he's so exhausted.

10 am clear. On the hill fort.

The group manages to fix the gate to some extent, and blockaid it to their satisfaction. Taking turns, they pass the rest of the night in relative peace. They sleep late in the morning, but eventually the group has all arisen and can see the surrounding countryside in the morning light. From the hill, the group can see rolling farmland and pastures for miles around, broken by small wooded areas.

There is rising smoke from numerous points, some of which are identified as farmhouses and barns. It appears the orc attack was wide, affecting the entire Northern Vastermarch. The orcs seem to be either hiding or retreated now, though. No armies are in sight.

The well winch has been destroyed, and a dead body sits in the water below. There are a number of kegs of stored water and beer, but soon, something must be done about that.

Nodis, now refreshed and full of energy, stands on top of the wooden walls and scratches his head. "There are too many orcs, even for us." he tells Ogrin "What now? I'm not much of a leader - always did things for myself."

Of the three surviving soldiers, one seems to have taken command. He is middle aged, and is a teamster when not serving in the militia. He is a human named Hugh.

"This is a large scale attack. We've done drills about this. We've always known it was a possibility, though an unlikely one. Orcs are not normally organized enough for it. If Braeholl has survived, they should send a detachment to check on us today. If they're surrounded, or taken, then we're on our own. We are too weak to properly defend this position. But we don't have enough water to simply wait it out. We need to either go out and salvage what we can from the town, and fill what containers we have in the river just South of here, and stay fortified here."

"Or we could caravan to Braeholl or whereever you're going. We'd prefer to stay with you four, actually, whatever you decide to do. Everyone is fit to travel. We've got 2 horses and wagon here in the fort, plus what you've brought. We've got 15 civilians and 3 soldiers."
