S2: War in Vastermarch - Completed

"I don't know how well be able to move everyone and make a good time - my puppets can carry people or pull carts, but I'm not able to make or sustain too many!" says Nodis. "Are the wagons available enough for everyone?"

"We could see what we could scavenge in the village." says Hugh.

A search of the village, though, turns up nothing of value.

I need to do a little research at this point, but you have your horses, + 2 more, plus a wagon to move yourselves, 15 people, and what supplies you carry. I need to figure out just how far Braeholl is...

OK. It's about 20 miles to Braeholl. On another note, I'll be camping on the Oregon coast this w/e, and will probably next post Sunday evening.

OOC: I'm back. Awesome finishing rolls, rln, thanks a million for playing Razh.

Rasereit is by no means a natural leader, but he knows what he wants: "Ah'm not sittin' around 'ere waitin' fer them t'come to us. We've got no defensible water source, an' we won't survive long without that. This looks like a major war effort t'me, an' ye need to consolidate whatever an' whoever ye got. To Braeholl, Ah say. We should take the road that the detachment from Braeholl would take. An' there's the matter o' travelin'. Should we move at night when the orcs are awake, or should we rest at night and risk gettin' ambushed in our sleep?"

Since there will be carts slowing everybody down anyway, Rasereit gathers the nicer looking items from the leaders and puts them in his horse's saddle bags (which puts her into a medium load).

OOC: Sorry for going AWOL. We just bought a house with quite short notice, and things have been sort of hectic around that.

Startled by Razh's loud voice, Ogrin wakes up, still resting in the haystack under the stable roof. "Must've nodded off. Not much sleep last night." he mutters to himself and rejoin the others.

"I vote Braeholl as well. If it's standing, that's the safest place, and perhaps some answers can be found there. If it's surrounded, we can help from the outside. If it's razed... well, they'll need people to rebuild.

"Hugh, you seem to have the attention of the rest of the village - make sure that whoever can use a weapon does so. We will take some time at nightfall before making camp to see that they know the business end from the holding end. Let people scavenge the fort and the village and pack whatever they need the most - food, water containers, weapons. No furniture -we'll need to travel as light as possible. There should be water to be found on the way."

Ogrin then brings the group together and talks to them in turn. To Nodis, Ogrin says "I have met a few with your skills - people who can bend their minds to manifestation and other things that more ignorant people would call 'magic' - but you are by far the most useful one I've met so far. Good work."

He then turns to Talbin. "And you, tallfellow, have a good eye and a good arm for that sling, and that blade. You'll need to dodge those falchions better in the future, though."

Finally looking at Razh's bound wounds, he says "If we are to survive till Braeholl, we'll need some healing. I have a few potions to share, but I'll take some extra money for those out of what we get when we sell these items later, if that's fine with you? Some of the items our enemies had might have arcane properties as well. If you wear them, you might find yourself able to do things better. Most of it seems too large for a halfling, though."

"Ah, thanks. It's been great hanging with other freaks" says Nodis. "I think I can create a couple puppets to help us in our way without fatiguing me too much - there'll be enough Nodis for any ambushing orcs!"

ooc: Before leaving, Nodis creates two Astral Servants with the Quadruped and Extra Speed options, spending 5 additional power points on each to make them last a total of 6 hours (this includes using Overchannel and talented, yadda yadda) and hopes they don't freak the villagers too much. They would be the rough equivalent of Str 17 , move 50 ponies. Total cost for both is 12 power points, leaving Nodis with 23

"Yeah, thanks! You weren't that bad in there yourself either! I really tried to get a good hit at that big mean one, guess i should pay more attention to other nasties as well.
So we'll be taking those orc's stuff, right? at least the nice things. Looks to me that might be worth quite some shinies!"

Hugh and the villagers are shocked and somewhat dispondent over the sudden loss of various friends and families, not to mention their homes and shops. But Braeholl does seem safer than waiting around here, so they all work, to various degrees, to assemble provisions for the journey.

I'll assume here that the horses from the village will pull the wagon, which will be largely used to carry provisions. This means the group will be moving at a walking rate. Given the physical condition and age of the villagers, this will get you about 16 miles per day. This might influence when you'd want to leave.

"Aye, the brute 'ad some nice gear, but Ah wouldn't try t'use any of it jus' yet. Ah've heard o' bad things 'appenin' to folks 'oo use evil creature's stuff, some of it's magicked t'curse wielder's wit' good morals an' whatnot. Never trust a wizard to do ye any favors, 'at's what Ah say."

"Never trust a wizard, period", says Ogrin to Razh. He clearly has some issues related to one. "Very well, let's see if we can find one in Braeholl that we can squeeze some information out of... not that I have high hopes, getting a true word out of a wizard, that's like squeezing blood out of a rock. Still, most magic items are benficial in some way or other.

"I suggest we get going soon... the further away we can get from here before nightfall, the better."

OOC: Does anywone need healing? Rae?
