S3: The Scythe of Seto (Bront Judging)[Completed]

Ogrin retreats to hide behind the marble statue of 'the Thinker'. The statue is on a base, and larger than life. Pushing it over is probably beyond Ogrin's strength, but it does not seem to be anchored to the ground.

He hears the sound of a key tinkling in the lock. Whoever is using the key seems to have to work a bit to get it to work. At last he hears a click, and the door creaks open. He hears a deep voice speaking. Another deep voice answers. He can't understand what they are saying. The door is pulled shut, and the key is inserted into the lock again. Again, it takes a bit of fiddling to lock the door.

Once the door is locked, two sets of heavy footfalls start down the corridor. Does Ogrin peek out to see who they are, either while they are entering, or while they pass?

--------
Banion sees the knight coming, and sets himself to defend. The knight's great black sword whistles through the air. The blade misses. The knight now stands directly in front of Banion. The corridor is 15 feet wide, and 30 feet down is a door (currently closed- but Banion knows it will open if he touches the panel next to it. There is a slight delay, about 3 seconds, between touching the panel and the door opening.)

Banion tumbles passed the knight (+15 skill, no roll required.) With his movement speed of 40, he should be able to get to the end of the corridor, smack the panel with his blade as he runs passed it, and go through the door.

"Beamer, there's some sort of barrier above the railing - see how Lothar is leaning against it as he flees!"

When Sangster turns tail and runs, Eusebius frowns in concentration, then shakes his head irritably. Since it is clear that he will not reach the fleeing rogue before he reaches Torvin, the monk decides to help out the bear instead, reasoning that he needs to stay close to Beamer until the halfling has a chance to cast his spells.

[sblock=OOC] According to my calculations, E is about 70 ft from L, so can attack on the next round. That gives B a round to make a double move and be close enough to cast haste the following round.

Manz, was there any result on the Kno(Rel) or Spot checks for the pale assassin? (Post 579)[/sblock]

Ogrins plan was to climb the back of the statue, brace against the wall behind it and push it on top of the key-bearers. Despite his size, he is stronger than most humans... if this seems beyond his strength, he'll let them pass and surprise them with a sling stone, then switch to sword and shield.

Razh has defeated his living reflection. It was as tough a battle as he has ever fought, and he stands, heaving, beside the mirror. Beyond the mirror he can now see a black curtain against the wall.

By chance does he look back into the mirror? Or examine his hand?
Mm... I imagine it's practically impossible not to look in the mirror. Also, there's nothing else in this room, right? So yes, Razh looks back into the mirror for a moment before searching for another exit, possibly the way he came in. (This is a fun house, after all!) He'll also keep an eye out for the missing chess piece, searching his pockets first and then looking around the room. If nothing presents itself (in the way of an exit or a chess piece), he'll give the mirror a poke.

As for his hand, he does examine his body for bad injuries, but unless his hands hurt or burn severely, he won't take off his magical gauntlets (which completely cover his hands) for no reason. He'll also toss down the last of his potions, restoring a meager 18 HP, putting him at 20/72.

Round 1

Beamer moves forward, shouting and Torvin and producing a brown bear. The bear shakes its fur and focuses on the blind assassin. Eusebius also charges forward to attack. He can tell, as he approaches, that Lothar is sprinkled with some sort of white powder. It could be flour. Eusebius reaches the assassin, but can't attack with a charge, because he can't move in a straight line there.

Torvin sees that they are moving the other way. He cuts across the bridge, heading 40 feet towards them in his heavy armor.

Round 2
Sangster keeps running, reaching the South end of the circle. Lothar screams helplessly, sensing great danger.

---------------

It would not be difficult for Razh to avoid looking in the freestanding mirror. The chess piece is no longer there, on the table in front of that mirror. There is the black curtain on a wall. His hand no longer stings.

---------------

Banion tumbles past the knight, and moving 10 feet. He then moves 20 feet and reaches the door, managing to place his hand on the panel. He hears the familiar hiss as the door opens. The knight is not done though. He wheels in pursuit. "None shall pass!" he shouts. He reaches Banion and slashes with his greatsword. He misses again

---------------
Ogrin senses this statue is simply too massive for him to move. Peering from behind it he sees that the two figures are ogres. They were dark, dirty tunics and carry great axes. He sees one has a keyring hanging from a hook at its belt. A large gold ring is clearly visible.

If he attacks with his sling, how far ahead does he let them get?

"Hm, odd," Beamer mutters to Eusebius's revelation about the barrier.

Beamer is glad to see Torvin moving across the bridge rather than closing in from behind him. He continues moving around the circle and casts a spell to accelerate the movements of his allies and himself.

OOC:
Move 20 feet around the circle. Cast haste targeting Eusebius, the bear, and himself.
Spells remaining: 6/4/5/2

Banion gets through the door and slaps the panel on the other side to close it. The door slides shut with a hiss, and Banion has escaped. He hears the black knight raving in anger on the other side. "Come back you yellow bastard! The black knight always triumphs!"

Banion finds himself in a narrow beige corridor leading to a semi-circular room. There are several other openings in the curved part, and a wide black curtain, which may conceal another door. There is also a door-sized black curtain on the long straight wall. A raised dias is set in front of the wide curtain, and on the dias sits a small imp behind a card table. He is looking at some large cards laid out on the table in front of him. He looks up as Banion enters, and raises an eyebrow. "Oh. It's you." he says in a bored voice.

from behind the smaller curtain, Banion hears a roar and scream.

-------------

On the circular platform, the bear reaches Lothar and tears into him with a low roar. Lothar screams. As blood splatters, it becomes obvious that some sort of invisible barrier covers the inside wall of the platform, preventing any falling, or throwing of objects, into the pit below.

Eusebius, Beamer and the bear come under the influence of the haste spell.

Lothar: (-9 hps. blinded until round 7)
Sangster:
Beamer (hasted until round 8)
Bear (hasted until round 8)
Eusebius: (hasted until round 8) <--
Torvin

Banion's first thought is that his friends are in danger, and he reacts without his characteristic caution.

Dashing forwards towards the sounds of battle, he looks about for an enemy and throws his mindblade at it.
