S3: The Scythe of Seto (Bront Judging)[Completed]

I will be going on my annual beach vacation on Saturday, July 12. I will be gone until the 23rd, probably. Although I will likely make some posts for my players, I am unlikely to make any DM posts, as they are more complex and I will be away from my resources. Sorry for the delay. I may get another post or two in before I leave. Not just yet though...

Beamer and Eusebius go into sblock mode for a while here.

Beamer and Eusebius[sblock]
Which hand does Beamer take the white king with?
[/sblock]

----------------
Ogrin slips past the statue. He is now standing in a hallway, about 10 feet wide and about 100 feet long. The walls are beige, and very smooth, as is the ceiling, 10 feet overhead.

One one end of the hallway is the familiar door of this temple: a simple rectangular panel with a smaller panel about chest level. At the other is a more traditional door. It is made of iron bound oak boards with the hinges on the other side. A keyhole is evident underneath a handle.

Along the hallway are three other statues, all spaced about evenly, on alternating sides of the hall. All are of highest quality, though none apear dangerous. One is of a beautiful woman with arms outstretched and clothing being blown back as though in a wind. Another is a muscular naked man sitting with his head on his fist, as though thinking. The last is a naked young man with a sling.

Ogrin turns back and notices the that the door he came through has closed, and is now invisible against the wall.

-------------

Banion notices, belatedly, that the door he passed through has silently closed, and is now invisible against the wall.

--------------

Rasereit approaches the free-standing mirror behind the small table. Looking into it, he sees himself. It seems to be a normal mirror. He reaches for the chess piece. Wait. Something is wrong. His reflection is no longer just a reflection. It is now standing on the other side of the table from him. This 'Razh' is identical to him in every respect, save the face, which slowly grows angry...

Rasereit has not yet touched the chess piece, but his hand is poised. He has sheathed a weapon or is reaching with his shield hand, you tell me. Either way, his 'reflection' is identically readied.

Beamer and Eusebius:
[sblock]Beamer is right handed, and drew his wand of scorching ray earlier, so his left hand is his only free one. He takes the king in his left hand. If it matters. that is also the hand he drew the card with.[/sblock]

Beamer & Eusebius
[sblock]Beamer reaches out and takes the King with his left hand. The piece rests in his palm warmly. It seems to fade within a few seconds, but its image remains. Beamer shifts his hand. The image of the piece has now been tatooed on his palm. Beamer sees the image of the benevolent old man, who winks at him as though sharing a joke.

Beamer knows he has now been given Jareth's reward for leadership, effective immediately. Please link this post to his CS & adjust his CS accordingly.

Jareth's Gift to the Leader. Beamer Glimmereye has a tatoo on his left palm of a white king, from a chess set. As long as this tatoo stays on his left palm, Beamer's Charisma is increased by 1, and his initiative by 2. If this tatoo is removed, by magic or amputation or whatever, this bonus is negated.

This image is heretical to the mainline church of Jareth. Followers of the mainline religion will react very negatively towards anyone displaying this tatoo, refusing assistance, and, in some circumstances, advocating violence.

Let us now assume the rest of the conversation between Beamer and Eusebius has taken place. Eusebius asks the imp if it has his piece. The imp replies, "No. I was only to give the King his reward. You are welcome to draw from the deck, though, if you have some currency."

[sblock=Manzanita & SlagMortar]Eusebius examines Beamer intently for a moment before turning back to the imp and saying, "No, thank you. I do not desire to play such games - only to complete my quest."[/sblock]

... he puts his axe in its loop on his belt and takes the white chess piece.

OOC: Not sure whether he's going to have to arm wrestle for it or maybe have to roll for initiative, but in the hopes of speeding things up, I've posted a potential action.

Rasereit hesitates for barely a second before grabbing the chess piece (with his right, axe-wielding hand), putting it in his pocket (not the same pocket containing the black chess pieces), and drawing his axe again. With a cavalier tone, he remarks, "Ah knew this was gonna 'appen. Come on, then. Please tell me ye're gonna 'old me 'and, like in the picture." Based on his slight crouch and wielded axe, Rasereit obviously doesn't really expect that response.

Rasereit must now revert to sblocks for a bit...

Razh [sblock]
Razh's double had appeared the moment he saw his reflection in the mirror, that thus before he had a chance to pick up the chess piece. We'll assume the reflection solidified as Razh was putting his axe away. Picking up the piece takes an action, which his twin uses to draw the axe.

It is a surreal moment for Rasereit, to be facing himself in battle, but also because the chess piece he picks up is gone by the time he tries to deposit it in his pocket. It is solid when he grabs it, but it is now gone. He doesn't really understand how this could be, but doesn't have time to worry about it. He feels good, though. Picking up that chess piece made him feel good. His reflection is most certainly real now, and very hostile. It kicks over the table and attacks.

Razh loses the jump to his foe. It swings its axe down; its face seething with rage. [single attack - move action used to get through table Attack roll 8+14 (rage) still misses, eh? Yer up..., [/sblock]

Beamer and Eusebius are no longer in sblocks

"Very well." says the little imp, pouting. He's clearly disspointed that Eusebius doesn't want to 'play.'

"Anyway, I'm supposed to speed you to your destination, since you won the game. So I think you're going to the center of the temple. You can just go through that door." he points to the dark arch with his thumb. "But if you want to play some more first, I can arrange that."

"Alrigh', Ah would ne'er attack a dwarf unprovoked! Ye asked for it, doppelthinger!" Rasereit, more than a little upset that this supposed clone is such a jerk, also goes into a rage. He pulls out his waraxe and swings horizontally. His axe cleaves the side of his counterpart's neck, cutting a jugular vein. (Confirmed critical! 17 + 25 = 42 damage)

[sblock]Ah, cool! A nice bump for a sorcerer and yet another organization that doesn't like Beamer! Soon he will only be able to interact with people who haven't yet written a character history and unfleshed out NPCs![/sblock]

Feeling more confident than ever, Beamer says, "No, I don't think we will be playing any more. Let's go find our friends. I hope they are fairing as well as we are."

OOC:
Spells remaining: 6/4/6/3
