Sailors on the Starless Sea

Franko: Wild eyes look at the infernal abomination causing a squeeky squeel from the jester, He gathers himself enough to cast a spell.

<cast magic missile> A force like a black beam shoots from his hand . . . Suddenly he grabs his head like he heard 10,000 different sounds screaming at him causing him to weep, "I am so sorry - so very sorry . . . "

Kurl bashes the acolyte and though the hit isn't quite solid enough to kill the acolyte he is sorely injured. Boral's spell makes Tender grow two feet taller and Tender makes his sword and shield attack. The sword misses but the shield batters a beastman away from Bretta Vysst which is a good thing since the old woman makes the best cider in Krivstad.

Siva's arrow flies past the Chaos Lord and Narančasta's attack is knocked aside by the demonic creature.

The black beam of Franko's spell barely strikes a beastman and leaves it reeling but doesn't kill it. Homer finds the way back to the ship is still blocked by beastmen; a few more kills might open things up enough that he can lead Bretta and the other three survivors to the boat. Hank's spell fizzles; unfortunately it is bad enough that he won't be able to cast his animal summoning spell again today. The remaining wolf growls and snaps at a beastman but misses.

There is a savage swirl of attacks from the beastmen; mostly sound and little fury but Homer takes a serious wound and is swaying on his feet. Hank also takes a wound and even though it isn't quite as bad as Homer's he also isn't in good shape. Unfortunately Georgio Caddis, village watchman, takes a spear in the spleen and keels over dead.

The Chaos Lord's flail lashes out and strikes Narančasta. Only his armor and heightened toughness from being enlarged saves him from taking any damage.

GM: You all are up.

[sblock=OOC]Dropping and drawing in DCC is much like in 3.5 or PF. You can drop a weapon without problem, drawing a weapon takes an action but can be included in a movement action. An 'Action' is generally equivalent to a standard action in other d20 games but since it can be combined I think you can use your move to draw a weapon.

Specials:
Tender: Bless (+1 to all attack rolls) 9/10 rounds
Tender: Enlarge (+1 to attack, damage, AC) 10/10 rounds
Narančasta: Enlarge (+4 to attack, damage, AC; +10 hp) 9/10 rounds
Total Damages: Homer (-7); Hank (-3)

Chaos Lord, Shaman, 3 1 (wounded) Acolytes, 22 17 Beastmen (wounded 1), 6 3 villagers remaining.

Wolf: 4hp, 9 6hp[/sblock]

"Gosh darn it! Such a great sacrifice for a poor result! I must try again. I am truly sorry - "

again Franko tries to cast magic missile . .

something of more screaming in his mind causes him to falter in his casting - a blue arrow shape of force shoot out of his hand, flips suddenly in the air and lands on his head, bending it to shape on his head [picture the old prank arrow 'through the head!]. however, the spell fails none the less.

homer steps back and away from his assailant. he uses his sword to defend himself
5 foot step back and fight defensively-full action [total defense]

hank, though now male again, has trouble concentrating on the casting of the summoning spell. though befuddled by that one he checks his memory for another
he speaks words of a spell he has studied in his hours of writing, but the words are spoken in reverse, as he concentrates on the chaos lord's flail. He is trying to destroy the weapon!

mend [reversed] spell burn 4 strength; spell burn 4 agility

Tender attempts to protect the villagers once more by engaging the oncoming beastmen with sword and shield. "One of you lads tell me why this was Plan A again?"

Roll:
[sblock]
1d3=2, 1d20+1=14, 1d8+1=4, 1d14+1=10, 1d3+1=4
Deed of 2 results in a sword attack of 16, damage of 6, Shield Attack of 12, and Shield damage of 6.

"Darn it! I wish I could do more, but with my magic bolts lost for now this is the best I can do for everyone," Boral says as he rushes behind Homer and enlarges the halfling.

Roll:
[sblock]
1d20+3=15
A 15 total on Homer, who increases size by 25% and gets a +1 to hit, damage and AC.

"Stop the nonsensical complaints! This is glorious!" Kurl shouts as he tries to bash the face in of the acolyte in front of him once more. He may rethink such boasts, however, because his lack at physical skill shows. He unluckily makes a mess of things.

Roll:
[sblock]
1d20-1=1, 1d6-1=3
Critical miss on a natural 1.
1d12+1=11
-4 to his next turn's attack as he is off balance.

Franko's spell fails and the visual effect would be funny if the situation weren't so dire. Homer steps back trying to get out of combat and the beastman stabs at him. By luck, the attack missed and Homer spends the next few moments dodging and fending off other attacks as he can. Hank wounds himself to power his magic. The spell goes off though there isn't a visible effect on the spiked flail. Three replicas of Hank appear, however, and mimic everything he does. The last wolf is still defending the rear of the group and fighting beastmen; it shreds one in his teeth.

A slightly taller Tender lays waste to the beastmen around him: two fall to his sword and shield. Boral's spell makes Homer grow a foot taller and gives the halfling a little more defense and combat effectiveness. Kurl's luck is terrible as he struggles with the acolyte; it will take a few moments for him to recover.

Siva fires another arrow. Her luck is poor and the arrow flies past every possible target. Narančasta continues his attack on the Chaos Lord. The gods must surely have it in for the group as even with magic he is unable to land a blow.

The Chaos Lord retaliates and brings the spiked flail around in a blow that hammers into Narančasta's side. The warrior gasps and is knocked back a step from the force of it. Narančasta rallies and swings his longsword at the Chaos Lord returning blow for blow. Siva's next arrow follows the last one into the dark sea.

The beastmen surge forward again in a concerted attack: Franko takes a scrape and one of Hank's replicas pops upon being pricked with a spearhead and vanishes. It is a bad few moments for the villagers. Noola Soth, Krivstad's suspected witch (though no one could ever prove anything), tumbles to the ground with a spear in the thigh and young Nedric Tailor gasps his last and falls next to her.

GM: You all are up.
Siva & N have already acted.

[sblock=OOC]There is no way to extract oneself from combat without your opponent getting a free attack on you. There is no five-foot step in DCC. The beastman gets a free attack on Homer.

There also is no 'fighting defensively' in DCC. I follow the line of thought that you are always fighting defensively and trying not to get hit. However, I suppose it doesn't really break anything to allow you to give up all your attacks for a +2 AC.

Specials:
Tender: Bless (+1 to all attack rolls) 8/10 rounds
Tender: Enlarge (+1 to attack, damage, AC) 9/10 rounds
Narančasta: Enlarge (+4 to attack, damage, AC; +4 hp) 8/10 rounds
Homer: Enlarge (+1 attack, damage, AC) 10/10 rounds
Total Damages: Homer (-7); Hank (-3); Franko (-3)

Chaos Lord (dmg=6), Shaman, 3 1 (wounded) Acolytes, 22 14 Beastmen (wounded 1), 6 1 villagers, 3 2 Hanklica's remaining.

Wolf: 4hp, 9 6hp[/sblock]

Homer growls and hits his opponent after advancing 5 feet to where he was. He gives his very all. He wants to only get the remaining villagers home.

[sblock=OOC]I forgot to mention, Kurl is NOT affected by a fumble. Take a look at his roll, Deuce, you rolled a 2...

Scott, when Homer attacks with one weapon instead of two-weapon fighting he uses a d20.[/sblock]
