Savage Species: tell me about the geniefolk

JPL

Adventurer
So...a first-level djinn.

What's that all about?

[Other than a good reason to haul out my Al-Quaidim books]

Would someone mind filling me in about the general progression of powers for geniefolk, and what they're like at first level?

The djinn develop their abilities over the course of 13 levels; beginning with +2 to Dex and Int, fly speed 30 feet (perfect), and darkvision as racial traits. At L1, they possess a limited telepathy.

The efreet develop their abilities over the course of 19 levels; beginning with +2 to Str and Con, and darkvision as racial traits. At L1, they possess a limited telepathy and a slam attack.

The jann develop their abilities over the course of 11 levels; beginning with +2 to Dex and Con, elemental endurance, and darkvision as racial traits. At L1, they can enlarge/reduce twice a day.

Great info, Aeolius. I hate to ask, but I have a PC that may be permanently changing to an Ogre this weekend.

Can you give me a glimpse of what a 4th level Ogre would be like...?

:D

Would that be ogre, ogre mage, or merrow (aquatic ogre)? ;) All three are covered, in SS. I love this book!

The ogre "class" begins with a +2 Str, -4 Int, and -4 Chr. Land speed is 40 feet and darkvision is 60 feet. At L1, the ogre begins with +3 natural armor. At L2, add +2 Str and Con. At L3, natural armor is +4. At L4, add another 2 to Str and Con. Hit Dice are 1d8 per level, though 4d8 are not gained until L5.

Mind you, that's just a smattering of the info. Go grab a copy of the book!

Looks like I have to get that book. I have a PC that was chnaged into a genie with a PrC, and it looks like there are some nice ideas to borrow for further advancing.

Veeeery interesting.

I'd love to play a genie character. Very young, but confident that within a century or two --- a blink of the eye by genie standards --- he'll be at the peak of his power, while all of the mortals he's associated with be dust.

Might be a good idea to keep his real identity a secret and just be a mysterious traveller from the East weilding strange magics.

Damn. I gotta buy this book.

Granting Wishes?

How have they handled the Grant Wishes power?
The ability to grant 3 Wishes pr day to their fellow PCs might turn out to be slightly overpowered.

What kind of Weapon proficiencies do the genies get?

When will SS be out in Scotland?

How have they handled the Grant Wishes power?

The only Genie kind that gets Wish as a standard ability are the Efreeti, and even they only gain that ability at level 18, and then the ability to grant wishes three times a day at level 19.

They get wish at 18th Level as a spell like ability once per day?

So when an Efreet reaches 19th level, he'll be making a fortune off granting Wishes for money?
Could an Efreet 19/Wiz 1 Grant wishes to his Familiar?

Probably not broken, seeing as they lose a lot of HD/spells BaB on their way to 19th.

I havent bought SS yet, do the Genies seem balanced? has anyone tried them in play?
