Saying the wrong thing

As a DM, have yu ever said the wrong word when describing somethign, and then have hilarity ensue? This one isnt too funny, but one time I described the Barbraian getting stabbed in the chest instead of being pierced. The player corrected me, and I was like "Oh, come on, your tough, you can take a stab to the lungs."

Ahh, that session was fun.

A session or so ago, my illustrious DM described our camp setting as your usual 'Woodly Nightly' kinda place.

We spent a fair amount of game time chuckling, wondering out loud what Woodly Knightly may be up too, checking bushes, and warning visitors of his presence.

Wulf Ratbane's character in my game is a sacred fist, and he does a LOT of damage to things when he hits them. But here's a hint: even if the character is flanking the bad guy, DO NOT say something like "Stone Bear pounds roughly into him from behind, and the monster screams with pain." Nope. Uh uh, no way, no how. Just trust me on this one.

In retrospect, that's one quote that isn't making the story hour.

Not quite the same thing...

...but last night during my session, the group was getting to a part of the Banewarrens in the chapel where Brother Heth has set-up shop.

***SPOILER ALERT***

So, they get to one specific room and after they cleared the room, they said, "What else is in this room?".

Everyone was tired, including me, and so I said, "Nothing much." So, they pressed me, and I finally read exactly what the description said (something I do from time to time when I get lazy and it's toward the end of the night). So, I said, "If the characters have already fought Brother Heth's thugs, the room will be empty..." and then I slowly stopped reading as I realized that up until this point they hadn't exactly figured out that Brother Heth was the main bad guy. :(

They're being good sports about it, but it did kind of ruin the build up.

This sort of error has happened to me a couple of times as well, because I am often quite absent-minded :p It's definitely not that fun for the DM as it is for the players...

Our DM once came up with a beholder with the arachnoid creature template from Underdark, as a lieutenant to a particularly nasty demon we were opposing. He wanted it to have a spidery sounding name, so he played around with the word 'arachnid'.

The name he came up with was 'Anarach'. It wasn't until the actual game session when he read it out load that he realised he had called a monster 'anorak'.

EDIT: There was also the time when I was DMing and asked a PC to take 3d6 points of damage.
