Scarred Lands: Ask the Sage [Nothing can stop me now!! *evil laugh*]

Seen it as well. Also, there was a post in the forums that the SL section will be used for more news, making it sound as if several news items are to follow, not just a single one (in effect, a news item saying cancelled).
But maybe that's my optimism speaking. ;)
Yeah well you have a weird sense about what constitute optimism if you think they say "We are cancelling the Scarred Lands."

Now if they say "We are RESTARTING" the Scarred Lands, that's different. Makes for some much better stuff hopefully down the pike.

We'll see. At the moment I haven't spoken with Joe but I still believe when I know, you'll all know.

Maybe I should rephrase that: It seems that they will have more than one news item planned for the SL site. That reduces the likelyhood that they will say "Cancelled!". Thus, I'm more optimistic that they won't say so. I'm hoping for it to continue. :)

That's better.

Myself, I am hoping that they'll say in 2005 they'll have a SL "rebirth" or at least more SL products in 2005 than they did during Fall/Winter of 2004.

We'll just have to wait and see.

I think it depends on if you're DM or a player.

For a player, I'd say pick up Gaz: Ghelspad to give you an idea and then pick up a player's guide. This way you can truly customize your character to fix into a Scarred Lands game.

For DM, definately pick up SLCS: Ghelspad, The Divine and the Defeated, and then follow that up with one or both of either R&R or CC (CC Revised though not CC 1)

Then you can pick and choose based on your own inclinations.

If however you just enjoy learning about a new campaign setting, get all that I've mentioned, PLUS the novels, and the adventures. Plus everything else that comes out from the Scarred Lands.

I would avoid the novels like the plague and also avoid the book about the Faithful and Forsaken as that's a good indication of when SL material begins to get... 'shakey'.

For a player, the SL Gazatteer shoudl be enough for you to determine if you dig the setting. Ditto for a GM as a matter of fact.

For a GM interested in it, I'd say that the core books would be the SL Ghelspad hardcover, Relics & Rituals, Creature Collection Revised and one region book to start off with, I'd suggest Mitrhil or Hollowfaust as both are relatively player friendly.

Hey all (bump)

Okay, now that I am actually catching up on my Scarred Lands stuff, I have some questions, if anyone has the skinny. (Casts a glance around)

In Vigil Watch: Asaatthi (lurve them double letters) (Nice book, BTW. I think it's one of the better ones. Why didn't WW send this one in to the ennies?) they have the string of weapon familiar feats. The Edge is True talks about reducing DR by an amount equal to the damage modifier. Yet there is no "damage modifier", though it does seem it might be referring to the hardness modifier that it talks about in the next paragraph (which fits with the numerically, but seems confusing.)

Weapon Familiar feats. :) My favorite of the "crunch" (I think the reason was, there were a few other S&SS/Scarred Lands book in the running.)

I'll see about getting Werner here since he was one of the authors.

Rereading it again I believe what it should read is as follows = The Weapon Familiar uses it's Int modifier to decrease the existing DR (ie the actual amount) if it's not of that type. Thus a weapon familiar with a Int of 15 (+2) decreases a creature's 10/silver to 8/silver. Thus allowing it to decrease its normal DR even though it's not a silver weapon.

Make sense?

I sort of gathered that much. I was just making sure I didn't miss some passage somewhere that gave the weapon a bonus to damage equal to its int modifier that it seemed like it was alluding to.
