Scarred Lands: Ask the Sage [Nothing can stop me now!! *evil laugh*]

Honestly, coyote, I wish I could give you a straight answer.

Currently there is only ONE Scarred Lands release slated for 2004. There aren't any currently slated for 2005. (To my knowledge)

Thus many believe that this means Scarred Lands is being canceled. Or at least there will be no more new SL books again.

Now I've checked with Joseph Carriker, the current developer and the guy that knows what's going on. He doesn't know and has said so a couple times to me that when he DOES know he'll tell me.

So is Scarred Lands canceled? No idea. I don't believe it is. It might be undergoing a revamp or just a long dry spell while WoD gets its feet settled.

However no one I've talked with knows anything for sure. I believe Scarred Lands WILL continue but no idea if any new releases will come after 2005.

Well, you could start some rumors. Say, claim that they're being mum about more Scarred Lands stuff 'cause their delaying future books so that they can be 4e (or 3.75e, if you prefer) compatible.

;)

I can see it now, the next book, "SL: Errata Campaign Setting." Collecting all of the errata never published for your 3.0 books with 3.5 errata conversions.

Wow. You don't ask for much! ;)

Scarred Lands is a medium/high magic, low magic item count world where the gods have won in a titanic battle against their progenitors, the Titans.

*goes into Sage/Pimp mode*

So you wish to know the history of this world eh? Well tis not an easy thing to just write about. On that I agree with that old goat, Yugman. There are many creation stories out there. But the core one remains. In the beginning, the titans formed this land with the will of their own. While indeed, they are savage beings, they are instrustmental in Scarn's formation. They are forces of nature beyond the petty concerns of "good" or evil, law and chaos. They are as they have always been, beings of vast power with no real sense of what our races meant to this world. To them it was all life, death and "rebirth." Of course eventually their powers to create and their need for stronger followers would come their downfall. For then come the Gods, the 8 Victors. From them could only disaster and death follow. For indeed the gods felt and needed mortal worship. Without it, they would starve and die. So it was decreed, after some minor hiccups involving the strange Slacerians, and Council of gods, that wise Hedrada proclaimed that rebellion was the only option left. Thus the divine war came. I know you've seen wars, seen wizards cast spells to kill many a man. But when the gods themselves fought, time itself became unglued, the sun and moons fell out of the skies, the seas turned to blood (and thanks to the Dark Gods, the blood Sea remains.) and more strange, hideous and unnatural things did occur. But slowly, with skill and planning the Gods prevailed. Even though the cost was high. 13 of the titans had been. Now only the one called the Traitoress, the Earthmother whom the Gods proclaimed to their side, remain. At least remain in consciousness. For as I said, no power, not even a god can remove the Titans hold over this world. So now good fellow, if you don't mind I have more pressing matters to catalog. But please feel free to browse my library. I am always willing to loan a book out. Just be sure not to use the one here. *taps a book with a skull and knife on it* I've got it on loan from the Cult of the Ancients. They allowed me to write a short chronology of their order. Yes I know, Assassins and murderers hardly make for good reading but it is important to keep the past alive. For who knows when it might come back to haunt you...much like the Titans still might.

I think what seperates Scarred Lands from a vast majority of WotC stuff (barring Eberron which is cool but a little too frentic for my taste.) is they have some really cool ideas about what the core classes are like, (such as druids being more than just "nature clerics" and no you don't need to worship a deity to cast druid spells), interesting monsters, (wrack dragons, high and low gorgons, for starters), and even a few twists on old PC races (High elves are now forsaken elves as they have lost their connection to their god AND been cursed by the Titan of Plagues, Chern)

Plus the fact the gods are VERY interactive, arcane magic is good for generating heat (and showing off half naked sorceresses!), and there's plenty of reasons to be a paladin or a ranger in this setting, more so than in FR or GH.

Oh and there are only 18 gods total but you can always add more. Plus no real "racial" gods cross pollenating each other other than a paragon for each one. (Except the forsaken elves. Theirs is dead. At least that's how I view it. Others may vary thanks to Dead God.)

Plus the fact we do have dark elves but they aren't spider worshipping drow. They have a construst god that's dying and they are fighting dwarves.

If you need more info I can provide it. Just ask.

Are there any Scarred Lands adventure modules?

Four that I know of: The Serpent Amphora (free pdf from SSS), The Serpent in the Fold (continues the Serpent Amphora storyline), The Serpent and the Sceptre (continues SitF), and the Serpent Citadel (continues SatS).

While I have some problems with them, they do an ok job of introducing the setting to newcomers and would be fairly easily convertable to most of the major published settings, IMO.

Are they like an FR adventure? ie. they're heavily based around campaign events that take place in novels and PCs are puppeteered through 'em by the GM?

Yes and no. There are major campaign implications if they fail, but there are lots of ways the DM can get things back on track without railroading.

Haven't read any of the novels.

If Mordenkainen wanted to make "first contact", who should he see? Just the first grumbling old coot with a pointed hat?

He should stop by the Church of Madriel in Hollowfaust. Ask for the Lightbringer.

<snicker>

Is there much life under the sea in the Scarred Lands? Is there sea elfs and sahuagin and other such stuff.

There's a lot of different seas - most are unique to one another. Something in one sea likely wouldn't last in another.

Is there psionics on the Scarred Lands?

Yep, there are guidelines in Relics and Rituals 2, which essentially suggests using the "psionics are different" option in the PsiH or XPH.

I have a psion in my party. Over the last 6 levels, he's been slowly physically transforming into the body of a Slaracien. No one knows about them and I think the party members are as freaked out as he is.

Are there elven subraces on the Scarred Lands?

Yep, a summary can be found in CC(Revised).
