Scarred Lands: Ask the Sage.

IMO, Tome of Magic is also tailor made for Scarred Lands. Replace Penumbral Lords with Shadowcasters, add in Binders and True namers and you could really go to town.

I wonder how the Divine races would react to Binders. Not necessarily binding Titans, since I'm not even sure how I would go about making a Titan vestige, but, binding all the other goodies from SL history. There's just a wealth of individuals that could be done - Slarcians, Assaathi, dragons, giants, the Elf God... just to name a few. What do you think Nightfall?

Well most certainly I think the Shadowcasters would represent a Penumbral Lord pretty well. Certainly much better than what is currently available to most people that cast spells.

Binders, I think can be titan binders. How? Simple, much like the Blood Witch uses blood, I think I could see binders tying themselves to certain titans spiritual powers too. Not sure I'd do Assatthi but dragons (especially in the Dragon Lands), and maybe even in the Carnival of Shadow certainly.

True namers I think work very well and might even be a subset of various displinces the Phylatric Vault has.

Regarding their reaction, I'd say most divine races would be miffed but considering everything else they have to deal with, just one more headache they'll have to deal with, after titan spawn, titan worshiping druids, and sorcerers. Plus what ever comes along. :) Do I think they'll react positively to non-titan binders? Perhaps, I think it depends on the source and the connection.

Firstly,

I'm hardly self appointed. I am, in fact, an NPC. Secondly while I appreciate the fact people do have opinions, some of them that differ from mine, I do think that the fact Denev is a true neutral being, she rarely gets involved anything unless it harms the entire world.

If memory serves, you appointed yourself the sage before they made you an NPC in Shelzar. :)

And power is power. Titan's got more than anybody. Denev's in a better position than any other titan so I give the crown to her. Even bound and decapitated/scattered/etc. the titans still have more power than the gods IMO, they just can't use it. Which entity is likely to use the most power on Scarn would be a separate question.

Yeah but I still got NPC served. :p ;)

Yes well just because she has the power doesn't mean she'll actually use it. That's my point. Denev is, at heart, a pacifist, and rarely if ever went to war about anything. Her concern is primarily Scarn/the Scarred Lands. Beyond that I don't think mortality or power plays that much into her decision-making.

And yes no question the titans have more power than most gods, individually, but the god conjointly defeated them.

Hey Nightfall - Are the player's guides to the various classes geared towards Scarn or pretty content neutral for use in any campaign? (I know that even if geared towards Scarn they can be used in any game, but I was just wondering.) Also, some time ago, I remember reading somewhere about a mundane weapon in one of those books (I believe it was some sort of cleaver) that alot of people were saying was a bit overpowered. Do you know off hand what it was, and can you post its stats? Thanks.

The player's guide series for the Scarred Lands are both generic and Scarred Lands specific. There's a lot of tidbits about the evolution of each class, some tips on making your character's class more tied into the setting, but at the same time Pr-classes and other things you can use outside of it.

The only cleaver I'm aware of was the War Cleaver from R&R I. That was pretty broken by many standards but I don't believe it was ever turned over in Player's guide to Fighters and Barbarians. (Most of the mundane and more than few magical weapons were in that book.)
If that's not what you're referring to, again check Player's Guide to Fighters and Barbarians. A lot of the mundane weapons were shown in that book.

I hope that was helpful.

Again ask and the Sage tries to answer. :)

Just to play Devil's advocate...

Where did you pull this little tidbit from? Denev is, in many ways, portrayed as the embodiment of the natural cycles of Scarn. Life and Death. Just as the fire wipes clean the living things from the forest to give the land a new start, Denev cares for the balancing of the cycles of nature. Really, if you're looking for the titan focused on verdant growth and life, maybe take a look at Mormo. But in actuality, these are titans we are talking about... and things such as preservation of life are somewhat beneath their concerns.

Yes, they did... one at a time, with the help of another Titan.

Since the original question was 'Who's the most powerful creature in the Scarred Lands?', I'd vote Denev. If the question was, what creature has the best shot at wiping the face of Scarn clean, I'd again vote Denev if she returns to her old power. And I don't know how easily the gods would take down another titan without having a titan to assist.

Just because Denev sided with the gods, doesn't make her a nice, sweet, eco-friendly titan, and definately not a "good guy". Sure, that interpretation can be used in a person's individual campaigns... it's just not spelled on explicitly in canon. It's a nice thing about the Scarred Lands... much is left up to interpretation.

Though that flexibility isn't neccesarily helpful to "Ask the Sage" threads.

If an epic cleric cast heal on the Scarred Lands, would they become the Unblemished Lands?

Uhm I don't think that heal works that way. But thanks for asking.

Ery,

True I do understand the need for personal interpretations. I just tend to not see it. I never said Denev was good. Pacisifism doesn't necessarily equal to good, just the use of non-violence. True she helped fight the last couple of titans, but honestly she didn't take on Mesos, Chern or Thulkas, probably the most powerful other than Lethene and maybe Mormo. Also consider the fact the combined might to down a titan far superior to Denev, Mesos. With Mesos still kicking, the Titans probably would have had more of a fighting chance. But again such things are relative to such matters.

In any case Ery, you're allowed your views. I just don't share them. Denev, is powerful and yes being a titan that's saying a lot. But being active and alive is one thing. Actually USING that power against anyone is what I'm saying. I just don't see Denev being that concerned unless it seriously harms the world. That's why I said that.
