Scrying Tactics for my MBEG

He's a shaman right? Shamans are like nature guys. Why don't we do this the old fashion way and have the Shaman get some guys from the village and track the party/spy on them and report back. I guess this kind of dumps on the whole "he has scrying" thing.

I'm thinking: working in a group of 3, same level of the party. They take turns, one being the runner who transports the info while the other two keep track of the party. Give them classes of either ranger, scout, druid or rogue. Or better yet mix it up a little. They should all have lots of hide and move silent. They are stricly for the purpose of spying on the party and not engaging in combat. Heck, they might even be keeping tabs on them trolls too, just to make sure they do the job and didn't just run off with the payment.

The PC cleric is on a spirit quest, so it's taboo to interfer with them. That is why the druid went "outside the tribe" and got the troll pack to do the hunting (that was a close fight). So I'm thinking that the druid is going to send somethinge else against them pretty soon. I could use the party of three using awakened animals with apropriate class levels.

Runner: awakened eagle rogue.
Muscle: awakened brown bear barbarian.
Tracker: awakened leopard ranger

make them ECL 10 each. Hows the ECL for awakened animals handled?

Well, alsih2o successfully had his BBEG keep tabs on our party for monthes with a raven familiar. It finally took NPC intervention to clue us in. Them birds is mighty useful.

Scry around dusk, when they will have made camp. Then you have a full night to catch up to them. Knowing where they are staying is important- it's likely to reveal allies they encounter, since they'll usually be with them by dusk.

Ahh... understood.

I have two more suggestion. It's kind of out of the way if the scrying party is made up of stealthy animals and such. But what about the often over looked druid spell Tree Shape (or is it Tree Form?). I guess turning into a tree when you have like a +a bajillion to hide isn't all that prudent ;) Next suggestion: what about some Treant contacts? Perhaps the Shaman knows a few treants in the local area that can help him network and follow the party?

Anyway, sounds fun!

Without giving him more power or nifty stones of super-duration-scrying-spells
the Druid could coordinate an attack made by allies.
Thus, he gets to watch the party fight, to see them how they handle victory, where they retreat, what do they do, their tactics during and post combat, etc.

I assume that Druids have message spells and such, and can ascertain an exact time of day with good accuracy.

Also, more mundane ways of spying and sabotaging may prove more efficient.
(been wild shaped, summoning critters while allies attack them, etc.)

Yeah. The thing is that up until now the Druid/Shaman has just felt that the PCs have been a minor nuisance. And he really can't get involved since he's currently in the middle of a power play to become the Chieftain as well. So he's now basically scrying the PCs and deciding exactly what he will be doing. That's why I think I'll be sending the awakened trio their way, as a way of keeping tabs. The thing is, the druid/shaman is slightly constrained in what he can do since the PC cleric is the protege of the former (and retired) shaman. He contacted the Moonwood's lycanthrope comunity and had them sicced on the PCs, but the were-hunting ranger made short shrift (sp?) of them. He then sent the trolls. At some point he will probably confront them personally.

yeah...this is coming up :] . I'll probably have them "run" into a a pack of "unsanctioned" Treants in the near future. The thing is that the next 2 sessions will have the PCs wading into the northern glaciers, so the druid will have time to set the fight up in an appropriate location.

Anyway, sounds fun!

Yeah it has been. I have the PCs stumbling into the dastardly plans of an ancient lich, descendant of the Netherese. I haven't decided exactly what his EVIL PLAN will be ( :o ), only that it involves manipulating the Silver Marches city-states, Obould's orc hordes, the Uthgardt tribes, and even the Fey'ri (sp?).

The coolest part is me presenting the PCs with convoluted plots and situations whiche they then proceed to solve in the Barbarian Way*. :D

Barbarian Way: once circumstances cross a cerrtian (ver low) threshold of complexity, take an axe to them!!
