Sealed Pages in Dragon--Contents inside!

The content really isn't that shocking in my opinion. Some of that stuff seems pretty normal for those who play games such as V:tM, in fact I've been in a game with Sabbat members where we did a lot of vile things to NPCs. Everybody who complains about it seems weak-willed to me. And remember other than the WW games, there are still other games out there such as Nephilim, Kult, and All Flesh Must Be Eaten in the same category.

As for some of the stuff, well Corspebond seems like something suitable for character I thought up long before the BoVD came into existance. She's an utterly insane girl from a family of inbred nobles (inbreeding among nobles was common among families who wanted to keep the wealth to themselves) who took up Necromancy as a hobby, she's a nympho and wouldn't be above some necrophilia.

Of course not every character is like that in campaigns I would run. It's just that villians seem to fall into two categories, those that are disgustingly sick and evil, and those that could be heroes but are completely misguided in their goals. It helps to have a helpful combination of both. I like to have the line between good and evil to be blurred.

Kobold Avenger, that stuff is normal for V:tM. But that's not the point. Everyone knows the content of that game and takes or leaves it, but it is not as fundamentally representative of role-playing as D&D. And even White Wolf had the sense to put their vilest stuff out under a different brand name.

And that has been my point all along. I see it as a 'very bad thing' to link the D&D name with this kind of material. Let Green Ronin or another 3rd party publisher do it, or make a seperate game line without the D&D logo attached to it.

This goes double for the magazines which are, basically, the advertising arm for D&D. Many people who go to your local Barnes & Noble, who never bother to look through the Sci-Fi/Fantasy section of the store, will go by the magazine racks and see the cover of Dragon proclaiming it's 'mature' material on the inside. And they may get their first impression of the game and the hobby in general from what they see inside...

I'm going for

Energy Substitution: George W. Bush

Why is it that people think that making constant snide comments in numerous posts (at least it seems numerous lately) about political leaders is acceptable. All it does is make others want to react and that way lies a flame war.

Because it seems that the people who react to such bs are the ones held responsible for causing a thread to go political/religous. ;)

Ya know what folks, I still know that this book has an MATURE rating stamped on it right? Therefore those over the age of 18+ are the only ones that can buy it correct? If a parent buys it and then crys foul the only one to blame is the idiot who bought it.

Look, love it or hate it, it's coming out and the more scandalous it is the hotter and hotter it will be to buy it. Hell, i bet WOTC is encouraging conflict to fuel sales about this 'evil' book...

more power to 'em i say...

Forgive me, Wicht.

My comment was not meant to be a derogatory snipe at President Bush. Merely that the mental image of a Wall of George W. Bushes is, to me, a funny one.

No funnier than, say, a Wall of Steve Jobses might be, or a Wall of Helena Bonham-Carters, though. I choose the name simply for its likeliness-to-be-known-by-most-ENWorlders -- and for the always-reliable comic effect of using respected figures to illustrate absurd scenarios. I am surprised that you saw it as offensive, and assure you that no offense was meant. I will be more careful in the future.

Thats ok.

I probably am just getting a bit thin-skinned about it as it seems like it has been in numerous threads here lately. Either that or its about the same as always and I am just predisposed to grumpiness today by the fact I have a cold.

Energy and Politics are well connected and I thought that was the direction you were going. My bad. Sorry.

You are right. A wall of G.W.Bs might indeed be funny to behold :)

None. Nobody cares, Nathanael. This sort of stuff gets served up in teen comedies nowadays. Comic books, movies -- it's everywhere. It's schlock, it's socially acceptable.

At the most there may be some snide report on Jon Stewart's The Daily Show. Wizards should be so lucky.

Oh, people care. There will be fallout over this one. This is the stuff that the enemies of DnD wanted in the beginning. Now they have fuel. As I had posted before, in my area, no game stores will carry inventory of this book, and that is without this knowledge, I can only imagine what will happen when it falls into the hands of the right people. The agents of Moral Cleansing need books like this to renew their crusades. We are not living in the 'hip, cool, whatever!' world. This isn't White Wolf or some other fringe company, this is DnD. Teen movies aren't about acting out and role playing in the way rpgs are.

I like Monte Cook's writing, I buy a lot of Malhavoc material, but this is getting beyond decency. What is 'socially acceptable' to most of us here, may not be to a lot of people, people with money who get things done, people hunting for causes to champion. And damn it, I had a hard enough time playing DnD when it didn't have material such as this in it.

For myself, I don't really care, I am not buying the book from what I have seen. I am sure nothing in that book could gross me out, due to the real world and all its wonders, I just don't utilize those elements to such a degree in my games. But I have no doubt that people care.
