Sealed Pages in Dragon--Contents inside!

This isn't new vileness, armies of the abyss clearly started this trend... In it they give ways each demon lord grants its followers spells... one such way for a specific demon lord, is to basically masturbate into a holy text and then burn the papers.

I read that and thought... "that is overboard" the BoVD I don't think will get quite to that line of badness... we will see :)

I suggest it might.

And I admitted it might. Just so there's no misunderstanding, I was just trying to make clear to people that don't have the magazine that while the article is thematically linked to BoVD, they aren't making any explicit editorial claims that it's anything more than that -- though it does incorporate two or three rules expansions from the book.

I'm sorry if it sounded as if I were arguing about the nature of the book itself; that's not something I'd want to do without seeing it. I don't know that I'll want to do it then, either.

Things you can do with maggots...

1. From ELH: Creature: Wormkin. Lich with maggot body instead of mummy body. No more need be said.

2. From Dragon: Spell: Wall o' Maggots. Easier to punch through than Wall of Iron, but ewwwwww. Memo to Self: Look up disease rules for gutsy characters.

3. Creature: Giant Carnivorous Maggot. About the size of your finger, necrotic poison (rots flesh), tries to burrow inside and nest, then lay eggs.

4. Creature: Parachuting maggots. Silk streamer used to fly in a manner similar to some spiders. Can smell rotting meat a mile away and land to breed in it.

5. Spell: Rain of Maggots. Like meteor swarm, but keep your mouth covered.

6. Item: Maggot Cloak. A special, flesh-gray cloak which allows you to squeeze through small openings, live on rotting meat, bite for 2d4 damage, and summon a maggoty swarm of vermin 1/day. Slight side effect: odor.

7. Spell: Maggot Mount. A horse sized maggot that can burrow at a move of 10 feet. As long as you duck and cling tight, it can carry you through the earth. 2d4 bite, STR 24.

8. Spell: Maggoty Finger of Death. Like Finger of Death, but creatures affected are consumed from within by maggots.

9. Spell: Maggotskin. Your skin is flesh-gray or grayish-pink, and slimy. You get +2 AC against bludgeoning weapons.

10. Spell: Maggoty Retching. Target begins vomitting up maggots, violently. Similar in effect to Tasha's Hideous Uncontrollable Laughter, only a lot grosser.

I've always been rather fond of maggots in my D&D (I also have a thing for leeches, slugs, flesh-eating virus, and VATS OF ICHOR).

Some of us should get together and put together a Natural d20 product called The Book of Maggots :p

We could include some of seasong's ideas, but the were some obvious omissions:
  • Maggot Missile
  • Dispel Maggot
  • Maggot Mouth
  • Maggot Circle against Chaos/Law/Good/Evil
  • Maggot Vestment
  • Maggot Weapon
  • Greater Maggot Weapon
  • Summon Maggots I-IX
  • Detect Maggot
  • Maggot Fang
  • Maggot Hand
  • Maggot Armor
  • Nystul's Maggoty Aura
  • Charm Maggots
  • Mordenkainen's Faithful Maggot
  • Maggot Jar
  • Antimaggot Field
  • Maggotball
  • Delayed Blast Maggotball
  • Protection from Maggots

:D

Oh no! Dragon is now producing evil things! Parents will hide their children! It's foretold, see? See? They make mention of corpsesex and hell breaks loose! Religious figures will Damn gamers from the Gates of Heaven! The world will swallow up all the 3rd Parties! It's the Apocalypse!

Why, next, there could be Boobies in the magazine! Or it could promote Dancing!

To quote the Simpsons: Won't someone think of the Children!

Here we go again.

I thought we've had this discussion a hundred times? Yeesh.

Though, I wonder what happens if the caster's a Female, and that spell? Does the demonsucker pop outta her? That'd really suck.

Hey, Undead Pete, you forgot Maggot Bolt. :D

Aitch Eye;

Is the spell "Searing Seed" gender neutral?

Or does it only affect female victims?

Should it be the latter, I can see some pretty virulent arguments brewing.

Just curious.

Oh, people care. There will be fallout over this one. This is the stuff that the enemies of DnD wanted in the beginning. Now they have fuel.

White Wolf has *long* since stolen this fire from D&D. Any game stores in your area that won't carry this book are just losing sales.

D&D is such a tiny, insignificant market compared to everything else that it just doesn't matter. Resident Evil and Quake make more of a splash now.

No funnier than, say, a Wall of Steve Jobses might be, or a Wall of Helena Bonham-Carters, though.
I'd like to see a wall of Helena Bonham-Carters, especially if there was little to no clothing involved. I think I'd even be willing to fund research for a spell like that.

Now that's a spell I can see a wizard going for , Wall of Helena Bonham-Carters.:) I can just see it -

Ftr: Quick wizard, meteor swarm the damn thing!
Wiz: Errr, no can do sorry ...
Ftr: Disintergrate?
Wiz: Ummm, no.
Ftr: Well what then??
Wiz: Umm, I don't really have anything above third for this ...
Ftr: WHAT?
Wiz: (in dreamy voice)Well, you see, there's the base Wall of Helena Bonham-Carters at 4th, then there's the extended, and the empowered, and the maximised and the quickened versions ....
Ftr: Enlarged?
Wiz: Nope, last time I did that, the wall slapped me ...

Though, to be on topic, I don't know that until the BoVD actually comes out that it can be judged by this sealed section - said author of sealed section had nothing to do with the BoVD did he? It may be that he's taken off on a tangent or gone further than the BoVD does. Speaking of which, when is the BoVD supposed to be released anyway?

Yeah

This is always an interesting discussion. I love those arguments which call for a system of community honor. (deleted) would be wrapped in such a state of victomhood to believe that anyone gives a damn about this hobby or that there is a nefarious 'enemy of dnd' worth a damn. Please, invent more drama.

Second is the strange feeling i get when rape and deviant sexual practices are given more weight than the type of splatter violence that occurs in these games every session. A typically mysogonist (deleted) attitude.

(Note: Please refrain from rudeness and political slams - or at least prevent your political comments from sounding so rude by pointing out that "I think that ..." or "In my opinion, ..." rather than making them appear as statements of fact and/or accusations.
Thanks...

Yes and no. Male victims take double the Con damage and have a -6 circumstance penalty to their Fort save "since their bodies are not normally capable of giving birth."

Reading along and seeing that last bit of thoroughness gave me a fit of giggles. I suppose they just felt for stylistic reasons they had to include an explanation, but I wonder if it might have been intentional.
