Are you sure you are old enough to remember that? :)
To tell you the truth I do not really use them. In Québec about 50 person a year get HIV. I have more chances of dying/getting injured in a car crash. All the other STDs are treatable with some pills.

Actually, that isn't quite correct: STDs that are incurable are AIDS (HIV), HPV, herpes simplex, and hepatitis B. The only one of these diseases that has a vaccine is hepatitis B while the outbreak of the others have reached epidemic proportions.

In addition, @ 7% of all cases of gonorrhea in Europe, Japan, and North America are of antibiotic-resistant strains, currently treatable only with powerful injectable antibiotics. This has led to fears that it may become untreatable in a few decades.

So we're looking at a MRSA level gonorrhea looming on the horizon.

There's a sensible attitude: "It won't happen to me, so I don't have to take precautions." Isn't that how the whole problem started?

Meh, HPV does nothing to guys, 80% of people have herpes and live, I've mentioned AIDS, and I was vaccinated for B and the gono is still treatable.
