I'm not surprised that they're doing this based on the Hickman Secret Wars, but I have residual fondness for the OG and hope it doesn't get forgotten. (There always seems to be a desire from some to diminish anything Shooter did in comics, especially at Marvel (while personally blaming him for every crappy corporate thing Marvel did), which is sad, especially now that he's gone.)

While I like the epic scope of Hickman's storytelling, he's also notable for changing characters to fit his story, rather than adapting his plot to match the characters he's using. (Millar is notable for this too) This Battleworld concept works nicely for this, because you get to reframe characters however you want.

I've enjoyed the 616 Marvel system so far, and had a lot of fun playing it at GenCon last year. I will say, it really helped having someone experienced run a session to understand how things fit together and how an encounter should flow. (a little old school in that type of learning, lol) Don't mind at all having an annual release schedule either: it might let them align things reasonably with things in the MCU, but more importantly not overflood the market and put too much strain on the community.

Matt and Marty Forbeck (lead designer and character designer) were recently on the League of Melanated Gentlemen podcast and, while they couldn't say much, they did say that they drew from all versions of Secret Wars, not just the newest run.

I agree about Secret Wars, but I don't think one release a year is necessary to prevent "over flooding" the market. The community would buy another book.

2 releases this year with the Rivals adventure coming out next month. And i think the slow release schedule is more based around the small team that also works on other stuff, not some market strategy.
