Serpent Kingdoms Art Gallery Is Up

Saurials got the cut!

But don't worry, now that art has been commissioned for them, they will be published. WotC don't like wasting money.

I've no idea where they will be published, though. Probably not in any announced product yet.

The eyes Crabapple draws almost always looks weird. As long as he's drawing something that doesn't have a human-like face its all right

Eyes are maybe the most difficult part of a human(oid) to draw correctly (hands are next). Anyway, I think that Dennis Crabapple McClain should now quickly learn how to draw eyes in a different (and much better) way. Because if some WotC staff members come to read this thread and notice that several people are complaining about his art, well... :\

--------------
Edit: actually, the muckdweller is well done. So Dennis Crabapple McClain's drawing problem really lies in the way he does eyes (human eyes), that he should better improve IMO.

Web Enhancements! ;)

Muckdweller

What do these three creatures have in common? Three hints: T o H. Oh well.

We're seeing a number of reprints/updates, it seems.

Art appears to be upperscale again.

I've never liked Dennis Cramer's work, either. I'm just curious, though: originally, he signed his artwork "Dennis Cramer," and nobody seemed to like his work much. Suddenly, he started signing his stuff "Dennis Crabapple McCain." Were we not supposed to know this was the same guy? Still, nobody seemed to like his stuff much (not surprising, at it was the exact same style). Anybody want to guess whether he'll pick a new name to start signing to his work, in the fruitless hope that maybe we won't know it's still him?

Heh. "Fruitless." That was an unintended "Crabapple" pun.

Like here, maybe?

(The saurials didn't end up in Races of Faerun, either, so we got permission to reprint the Dragon article I did as a WotC website tie-in to RoF.)

Saurials did get the axe. They were originally on the outline and when we worked on this book, we looked at the existing material and all concerned parties agreed that Sean had already provided the definitive 3rd edition write-up for these guys, so the material from the article he linked to above is what was to appear in print. It was rearranged slightly to fit the format of the book, but otherwise there were no other major changes.

For what its worth, I've always been fond of saurials, so I was a little disappointed to see them cut. By the same token, I was happy to see the other races that have never been detailed to this extent make it in.

Regarding the art. I was especially happy the Lizard King's Feast made it in since this book isn't part of the mature line.

This one really impressed me. The closer I looked, the cooler it became.

1. I like how his head is tilted... like how an animal would tilt its head. That simple little gesture really emphasizes his non-human/animal nature.
2. Check out that axe! The handle looks like the femur of some great beast. The blade is so cool and HUGE. A big chunk of the middle is missing, no doubt to keep its weight manageable.
3. The armor. Cool gauntlets, the chain coif hanging around his head, even the nifty tail plates.
4. Last but not least, those extra large leather boots. Who knew the scaly races wore boots? :)

Mark me down as a fan of Jeremy Jarvis' artwork. :)
