Sex, Sexuality, and Sexual Attitudes

Ale and whores! (Hey, someone had to say it.)

Actual sex, other than the aforementioned, has not cropped up much in games that I've played. It requires good roleplayers not to devolve into a sophomoric joke anyway.

Well we have had various PC backgrounds have sexual elements crop up in the past. My favourite would probably be the court seducer beguiler who was having a hell of a time till the clergy found out. Then he was ran out of city. His connections with the Barons of the city helped a lot later.

Actual in-game, some seduction here and there. Crude jokes/taunting here and there when playing crass mercenaries. Actual sex we have made allusions too but mainly just to the point of, "and the next morning they both left the same tent" kinda deal. We have mostly used sexuality as simply a part of character concept, so it is just another element like skin colour, race, etc.

Its present in my games, but mostly handled off screen.
A Dragonborn PC was captured by gnolls, in Thunderspire, and a NPC female dragonborn helped rescue him. Her goals became more obvious as they went along, she was interested in children more than a relationship. He moved in with her when they returned to the seven pillared hall.

Earlier in the game the PCs rescued some elven slaves, and when they returned to the elven village, all the PCs got offers from young attractive elves. One of the rescued slave women spent a lot of time talking to the lone elf PC, but disliked touching. (implying abuse as a slave, but never addressed directly.) He accepted other offers while still providing companionship to the rescued woman. He even formed a no-strings 2 week relationship with another tribe member.
As in a good Buffy game, that kind of double dealing is going to have a moral backlash.

The Party also hired a human as a guide for the first few days in the Labyrinth. It lasted until his estranged wife found him and hauled him home. Although that pair's relationship is more business than sexual.

Doh! How could I forget?

I ran a campaign that was just a bunch of traveling gypsy con artists. One of the characters, a halfling, was a bellydancer. Another, the swashbuckler, was a notorious womanizer. Utter hedonist. He tried to offer his "services" to pay for basically anything they could.

There was one hilarious session where he went off with a mysterious woman. I had him wake up the next day to discover that he, himself, was a woman; a trickster fey had played a prank on him, and in order to be turned back into a man, they had to play a trick on the trickster. Oh, the group had a good time with that one.

Sex is a recurring theme in my games...along with romance, lovers' quarrels, pregnancies, flings, marriages, creative use of Love Potions, varying sexual preferences, and so on...in no particular order!

Right now in one game I've got three male players playing a mostly-female party (4F, 2M, all PCs) including at least one lesbian. One of the females was male until recently, when a Cloak of Gender Change got him...and that's not the one who's lesbian. And two of the female PCs recently had to deal with a madam trying to recruit them as workers in her brothel. Believe me, that party sometimes gets interesting. :)

In my other game, we've so far had an unintentional same-sex wedding (result of a wild magic surge, and since annulled by the death of one of those involved), a part-time transvestite, three separate occasions of PCs making out *during combat*, Love Potions used such that two PCs fell hopelessly in love with the same third PC (and *that* got bizarre!). This game has 3 male players and 1 female player running a party about evenly split by gender.

And to give an idea of scale here, all the above examples are from within the past year; the campaign started last March.

Personally, I've played other-sex PCs, homosexual/bisexual PCs, puritans and sluts, sworn celibates and total dogs- all within the constraints of their particular campaigns. (I don't play ultra-jokey PCs in super-serious campaigns, for instance.)

IME, I'm one of the few players who actually makes distinctions in the sexual identity and attitudes of each of his PCs. IOW, sex just doesn't come up much in game...with the exception of the aforementioned ale and whores.
