SG-1. No Covert Class?

Actually, The Stargate Book was designed (according to AEG) as a branch off of the Spycraft series, so you really shouldn't try to play Stargate without the Spycraft book. It works a WHOLE lot better that way. The Stargate book is designed to use Spycraft Classes also.

You are kidding right? None of the publicity mentions that, and at $50 for SG-1, and another $30 for the Player's Handbook. I really can't believe they realistically thought people would be happy in spending another $30-40 on the Spycraft rules as well.

Excepting that the only thing Spycraft needs from the PHB is the ability score generation rules (which you can figure out on your own), and the experience tables (which Stargate has in it).

Stargate is a stand alone product (or as stand alone as d20 can be). Spycraft is not required to play. Stargate is in many ways Spycraft 1.5 and while a few base classes from Spycraft don't appear in the book, they don't really fit the Stargate character archtypes. Spycraft 2.0 will be released sometime med next year from what I've heard on the boards.

Caparoon was mistaken. SG-1 is a standalone game that uses the Spycraft system, but doesn't require the Spycraft Espionage Handbook to play. Your cost breakdown is exactly why it's a standalone book ;) No worries.

Actually, I never said you HAD to have the Spycraft book, I simply said that the game works a whole lot better With it. I was involved in the design for the Stargate book as a freelancer, and we designed it specifically to use the Spycraft book. However, the production team got ahold of it and decided it needed all the extra photos and extra background info, and THAT'S why it costs so much. That's probably also why Sony pulled the publishing rights, because no one in their right mind would ever pay for both. (I got a free one, which is the only reason I have both.) We redesigned Spycraft 2.0 to be able to improvise most of the Stargate material. You do not absolutely HAVE to have the but you realy do need the Spycraft book to take full advantage of the Stargate book.

BTW: There are a couple new classes in the 2.0 book you might like better. Try an Intruder, then move to Raptor.

Wow talk about waiting a bit to reply. 14 months.

I have both books and to tell the truth I never used the Spycraft book for any Stargate game.

Compatible, yes, but not dependant. SG-1 was designed as a complete system which could interact with Spycraft but did not depend on it. SG-1 was self contained and had new core systems (such as the bundle picks) which were exclusive to that setting.

Huh? Try again? Sony pulled the license because they got greedy. Done and done.

First off, we? I don't remember you on the 2.0 design team - esp. considering I have no idea who you are :). Secondly, the intent of SG-1 was not to sell Spycraft at all (though we certainly wouldn't turn away people who converted or used materials like the Modern Arms Guide).

covert stargate

One thing I thought would work is using the premise of the Xbox game 'Ghost Recon' as a SG1 unit. They can do followups on previous missions or strike out on new ones. Their gear list was impressive and got better with every version.

I just wish I could find a Stargate game :( Mine ended a bit ago. And by covert, you mean Splinter Cell like. Sneaking in and planting bugs, sabotaging a System Lords base and what not. We has a character like that, used the scout class. Worked pretty well. I think we used a few guns out of the Spycraft weapons locker book but that was it but agian never felt I needed the Spycraft stuff for it.

Wish you guys got the Season 6 book out for Stargate. Would have loved more Prometheous stuff.
