Shackled City - Ch. 1: Life's Bazaar

"Anyone who would harm a child is surely depraved beyond reason, and as such deserves a criminals death," Heimdal answers gravely, "and as for the thugs, for trained killers they didn't put up much of a fight. Not that I expect that to last long now that they see us as a threat."
Heimdal sits quietly for a moment, chin in his hand, pondering the riddle.
"I'm sure you are correct about the locks, but what of the rest? Perhaps by 'below the cauldron', your magic meant the sewers? As likely a place as any for those we seek, I'd think."
"As for you, thief," he says, glancing disdainfully at Sym, "I do not usually abide cowards, but it appears that at the moment I have no choice. But know this rogue. I've been betrayed by too many petty thieves much like yourself too many times to trust you with anything. Even consider betraying us and I'll snap you in half." He curls his hand into a fist as he says this, his muscles bulging, "And don't make the same mistake others have made in thinking my strength has made me stupid."

Friar Blutok stands up.
"Heimdal, please calm yourself. We only aid the enemy if we fight amongst ourselves. Sym showed good efort in the fight, I see no reason not to trust him thusfar."
Turning to Sym: "I'm sure we all appreciate your offer of expertise on locksmithing."
Turning back to all: "While I agree that the sewers are a good posibility, I think starting at the scene of the crime and checking the locks at the orphanage would be the quickest way to begin. The sewers are large and we would have no idea where to look. At least at the orphanage we have a starting point."

"Perhaps the sewers beneath the orphanage," Heimdal answers, "Are the sewers underneath the various orpanages connected?"

"There is really no elaborate sewer system. The ciy is constructed so that rain water drains down into the lake at the center of the city, what could be considered a sewers is no more that a system to get rid of filth and the like. Plus, as far as I know, there is no way into the sewers from the orphange. replies Jenya.

"So shall we investigate the orphanage, following any leads possible. Then if that proves fruitless we go and investigate the lake?"

"Oh, I'm sure a search of the orphanage will be far from useless," Heimdal stands and stretches, "Unless their is anything else we should know, Mistress Jenya, there is no time like the present. I should like directions to the orphanage, so I can start my search immediately, even if the others are too tired to begin tonight. It has, afterall been a long day. I can find an inn to sleep in once I have checked the are surrounding the building."

"Well said, friend Heimdal. The more we can learn now, the quicker the children can be helped. Let us see what we can find at the orphanage."
