Agreed, it would make zero sense to mention them. They're not involved and the focus needs to be on the PCs and THEIR adventure.
You do a series of encounters and tasks instead. Battlemaps that are used during big battles have flames and conflicts on the edges that represent the dangers of the larger battle and if entered cause damage.
