Shadowdark Shadowdark General Thread [+]

Plus the reloading time along with the rare and expensive ammo and powder.
I agree that for shadow dark, ammo scarcity and cost is a big deal. Also, the importance of keeping an open flame around all the time could be a problem. "If a 1 is rolled to reload while a lit torch is within 10 feet, all characters within 20 feet take 2x the weapon damage. Furthermore, the weapon is destroyed."

Unrelated to anything

Has anyone gotten any of the Unnatural Selection stuff to the table in actual play? Seen mixed reviews of it online but the negative reviews seem more focused on potential imbalance than actual results of using it.

A Bit Of A Delay

As you may know, my wife (Jessee) and I are the main production team for all Shadowdark projects. And we've been a bit slowed in our work lately. But not stopped!

Here's the scoop: Jessee and I have both been going through a very involved battery of medical prep the last few months so we can have a baby. And we've had a few curveballs that have made it all a bit more time consuming than we first planned.

However, this process has in no way endangered the Kickstarter. It's just forced my wife and I to need some surgeries and medical interventions that have slowed both of us down the last few months.

I have (hopefully) only one more surgery in mid-November, and my wife has two more — one tomorrow, and one in early November. We couldn't put any of this off for various reasons, but it's all short-term stuff and shouldn't last much longer.

So I just wanted to update you about how this has affected our progress a bit, but also reassure anyone who has heard I've had multiple surgeries that it's all for good and happy reasons (despite not being fun right now, of course)!

I think these factors are pushing our fulfillment out toward the late winter/early spring in 2026. It's a delay, yes, and something I hate to do. But I'd rather give you the real scoop instead of something unattainable!

And I'm also deeply grateful for all the well wishes we've had, so thank you to everyone who has been so kind! I hope this isn't too much of a disappointment, and know that we're still chugging along despite some short-term health needs intruding.

So What's Up Next?

I'm planning to share out our completed playtest document of all spells in the next week, as well as start the voting on what we'll feature on our GM screen.

My wife is going to draw the final map for Cursed Scroll 6: City of Masks once she's fully recovered from tomorrow's surgery, and then we'll have that zine ready to share out!

I'll keep things to baby steps for now (haha, see what I did there), and am confident we'll still be releasing material steadily regardless of these factors.

I'll be posting another update soon with more details. I didn't want to wait too long to update everyone, thus today's message. Our next update will likely land next week!
The most wholesome reason for a delay ever.

I'm inherently insatiably curious so want to know what's up, but it's none of my business. I feel a bit okay wondering because Kelsey's putting it out there. Unless they're both going to carry a baby, I'm not sure why they'd both need medical intervention prior to having a kid or kids. Are they maybe taking eggs from both and not telling them which is used then implanting...

Yeah. None of my business but curious and the door was opened. Anyway.

Best of luck to Kelsey and her wife.

Same. None of my business, but can't help but be curious of the arrangement because of how much info she shared. Lot of options for them that weren't available in the past, so just hope everything goes smooth for them and nice to at least hear a delay in a project was for something good. Looking forward to seeing CS #6 soon!
