Shameless Movie Scene Rip-Offs You Got Away With

It has been my dearest dream for a long time to run a scenario that goes something like...

"The heavy merchant's cart you are protecting trundles slowly down the narrow road. In the distance, you can see a shape that appears to be lying on the road. As you approach, it becomes clear that it is some kind of...creature? A monster? It is dark blue with a white stomach and face, and is...well, it's roughly spherical. It appears to be snoring. It is blocking your path. Does anyone have a flute?"

Kind of obscure, maybe, but...
it's a Snorlax from Pokemon doing what Snorlax does best.

At some point in my upcoming Shadowrun campaign, my group of jack-booted thugs is likely to kick in the door on some cultists, to find an enormously fat woman manning a machine gun and shooting at them.

I expect exactly one player to possibly get that reference (which is from the Special Missions preview in G.I. Joe # 50).

Oh, back in our Birthright game, one adventure featured flying infernal spectres trying to find fiendish cattle.

We're playing this out, seeing the flying infernal spectres, find out they're lawful, and I sounded it out; "Wait, they're after the Devil's Herd? And they're ghosts...riding...(starts banging head on desk)...in the Sky?!"

I used The Warriors in a Shadowrun game. Everyone got the reference immediately when the gang boss got offed. It was loads of fun.

In DnD I've used The Guns of Navarone. It went OK but no-one noticed the reference. And The Magificent Seven although that one turned into The Ten Commandments when the PCs decided to help the poor peasants get back home instead of standing to fight.

I tend to use characters, especially minor or supporting ones, from movies and TV rather than scenes. Its always funny when the players don't recognize the reference for a while.

Thanks to this threat I just had an Idea about replaying "Crank". Poison the whole group and lets see what they will do to keep their adrenaline level up, while searching for the antidote :)

And in the next adventure a Mage will steal their hearts and replace it with magic to test his Lich Ritual ... sadly it doesn't work that well and they are slowly dying. So they quickly need to find the Mage and prelong their live with as much Magic Energy as they can get...

"This is Arkham!!!" The Joker kicks an already defeated hero (to be fair he was beat down by Bane) down the stairs outside the asylum.

Ok, I didn't get away with it. It killed the game for about 15 minutes. But I thought it worth mentioning.

I just finished an Alice in Wonderland style adventure in my D&D campaign. It wasn't until the top hat toting Achaierai came into the scene did they understand what was going on.

"Why is that giant bird sitting down to tea.. and how do you propose we reach those enormous tea cakes?!"

I used to take turns DMing a Star Wars d20 campaign with one of my players. When it was his turn, he set up an adventure that was supposed to play like The Magnificent Seven, defending a small settlement from marauding bandits. Sadly, we didn't see it that way: we infiltrated the bad guys' lair and started shooting until we flushed out the leader. It ended up my character crashing a speeder into the BBEG's space ship to stop him from escaping.
