"Well, there's not much left to do, friend Kharas," Selene replies quietly, once again trying to look at what's in the satchel, "We're waiting for Mordin to show up, and I want to see what's in the satchel, in case the spirits have left some sort of clue as to what to do next."

Raven Thorn - human rogue 1

Raven smiles and shakes hands with Anvuss and Aiden.

"You are most kind. I have certainly come to the right place. Let us all sit and I will tell you the story. I get free drinks for telling a good story here don't I?"

"The Thorn's are an important family in house Orien. Three of my four older brothers work for the house. I also worked in the family business from a young age. I had many small successes, and my father, well, you know how it is with the only and youngest child. He put me in charge of this important caravan when another caravan leader was killed.

I handpicked a cadre of guards and scouts to take this caravan from Flamekeep to Sharn. I didn't know exactly what was in the chests to be delivered to the House Sivis, but I didn't ask. In two guards in particular, I placed great faith. Tharok Voam and Vlor Kham. These were men hadn't worked long for the house, but had shown themselves to be very capable in a fight.

Each showed himself reliable until the night that disaster struck on the road near Dragon's Crown. Tharok Voam himself was on watch that night, but no warning was given before a score of hobgoblins swept down upon the caravan. Most people were sleeping. I awoke with a start. The hobgoblins had surrounded the caravan. I jumped into the main wagon and saw Vlor there with the Sivis chests. I was very relieved to see him. He was fully armed and armored, so he must have heard something, or been expecting this. Outside, I could hear the guards and couriers getting butchered. I figured we might still be able to fight our way out with the chests, which were the most valuable items we were delivering. But no. As I watched Vlor slipped on a tabard with a claw insignia.

This must have been his way to identify himself to the hobgoblins, because when they entered they didn't attack him. He attacked me! I managed to slip past my attackers using some magic I know, and hide in a small grove of trees. I could then see as the caravan was stripped of value and taken off the road. I saw that two humans accompanied the goblins. One was Vlor. The other seemed to be Tharok, though I couldn't tell for sure.

My father must be angry, but he'll get over it. It turned out to be a tough job. It's my fault though, for selecting Vlor, and maybe Tharok. They were agents of some sort, who betrayed the caravan. A more experienced leader wouldn't have let that happen. I have a lot to learn before I will be ready to return to House Orien as an officer. And I'm going to do it without my father's help."

"Do I understand you to mean that they agreed to help you, but then turned on you and sided with your enemies? That is most certainly improper behavior! How could one anticipate such devilish duplicity? Surely, you should not blame yourself. Such dishonest behavior must be most unusual, yes?"

Anvuss glances between Raven and Aidan, hoping for confirmation.

Bloodtalon inches backward from the dog that is starting to give him strange looks. He disappears around the corner to where Aidan had come from.

(OOC: Hey Erekose, any chance to see what's in the satchel? Other than that, we'll just wait here for Mordin unless there's something in there that needs our immediate attention)

[sblock=Stilgar and Siobhan & any of my other players huddled around the satchel]Inside the provost's satchel you find quills and inks, six blank sheets of fine Karrnathi paper, a wrapped apple, and Bonal's journal.

The small journal, measuring about 3 inches by 6 inches and 1 inch thick, has a cover of dark brown leather with strands of mithral thread woven in a strange pattern. It bears no title, just the mithral-thread icon on the front cover. Inside, every page is blank, but the sheets have a strange feel; they don't seem to be paper or leather, but something not readily identifiable.

[sblock=Knowledge Nobility/Royalty DC 15]The icon on the cover is a primitive version of the House Cannith seal, showing a stylized anvil and hammer inside a circle.[/sblock]

(ooc: sorry hellish day at work and I was kinda waiting for Bront as he had the satchel.)[/sblock]

Weapon sees the shifters take out the satchel; he looks closely over their shoulders.

"Odd. Mithral is not usually used in that way. But, the book seem to be in as good condition as I am. *sigh* Functional but not useful."

(OOC: No worries Erekose ;)

"Hmmm..." Siobhan's pondering mumble sussurates slightly, just a bit like a purr, "It's completely blank. Probably written in invisible ink or hidden by magic. Can anyone detect magic?"

Stulgar finaly heads in out of the rain. "Looks like we weren't followed. Mordin should be here whenever he finishes the paperwork."

He sits down with the others and sets the satchel on the table.
OOC: Retcon :p

"We should definately find the right people and get them that book. They'll want it back, and perhaps even have a small reward for keeping it out of the hands of a murderus 'forged." he says. "It must have some importance if this is what he died over."
