"Skulls to be cracked? Oh dear, well, that won't do...but, maybe it's just that the case is more complex. A sinister element--nay, a sinister organisation with the plural skulls!" she emphasises the 'z' sound at the end of the word, "Oh my, yes--it is just like the Merlock Gnomes and the Mystery of the Auburn Guild!"

"I-I wouldn't really know, ma'am. The Proctor has been in a sour mood ever since the Watch returned him to the University in his smallclothes." At that point, his mouth clamps shut like a trap, as he realizes he may have said entirely too much.

"That reminds me of another one! In the end, it turned out that the missing persons who were out at night in their smallclothes were somnambulists being manipulated by a Karrnathi hypnotist. Hmmm...I wonder what it could be this time?"

"I really couldn't say, ma'am. I just know that the Proctor didn't like the way the Watch treated him, and he wants outside assistance. I-I'm just delivering the message."

"I am capable of 'smashing skulls'. Indeed, it was a primary function of mine during the War."

"Ah yes, yes, but...still a mystery, no?"

The young students eyes widen and he nods several times. "I know that the Proctor is soliciting multiple offers - this was the last place I was sent to leave messages. If - If you wish to be hired, he'll be seeing people tomorrow in his offices."

"Er, well...I know no one knows why poor Digran was killed, but I don't know much more than that." He is practically apologizing for his lack of knowledge at this point, unaware that his attempts are revealing more information than perhaps his master would like him to admit.

"Ah, and a murder too! No doubt the great minds at Morgrave kept the body pristine enough to find clues. What was the apparent cause of death? Lacerations, avulsion, blunt trauma, magic, poison, asphyxiation?" Alysina asks excitedly, one after the other in quick succession.

'I-I really don't know, ma'am!" He squeaks, flinching back from her staccato questions. "I wasn't there when it happened, I swear!"

"Ah yes, yes. Well, the forensics should be a fairly simple matter unless the body has been tampered. Bad deal, that tampering. A moderately talented cover-up can always be detected pristine, but add good-natured tampering of the evidence by amateurs, and the cover-up becomes impossible to detect. Why, there was one time that a vampire tried to pin an attack on a werewolf by transforming into wolf form after the fact. Even waited for the night of the full moon, too."
