Shifter powers, annoying pre-req?

What's so cheesy about deliberately staying at bloodied so you can start an encounter with the shifter's powers effectively active right from the very start? Seems like a reasonable risk to take. :erm:

Nothing cheesy about it.

In fact, this is a strategy I used when playing Final Fantasy 8. Spent the first three discs permanently on the brink of death.

Of course, unlike in FF8, monsters can drop you in one hit when you're bloodied... so.....

And no, I don't subscribe to the "it's not actual damage" camp since it quite obviously IS a measure of actual damage.

Page 293 of PHB:

Hit points (hp) measure your ability to stand up to punishment, turn deadly strikes into glancing blows, and stay on your feet throughout a battle. Hit points represent more than physical endurance. They represent your character’s skill, luck, and resolve—all the factors that combine to help you stay alive in a combat situation

Well, at least they do not have to go to 0 like Devas and Potent Rebirth.

Of course Devas get +2 to attack and damage.

I find the Longtooth Shifter's +2 to damage and regeneration to be one of the most powerful racial encounter abilities. Everyone else has to spend a daily to get regeneration, or go through some other hard-to-get hoop. There needs to be some kind of limit. I personally would have preferred that the +2 damaage was only while bloodied also.
