Should 3.x Have its own General Forum?

I don't know how to make a poll here, so if I can't get it launched, just state your opinion here for now and maybe we can get it set up later.

First off, this thread is NOT for discussing the editions, and therefore no edition wars talk, PLEASE! I want this to be a real discussion and perhaps influence Enworld to create just one more forum for the 3rd Edition forum area.

The question is whether there should be a 3.x General forum.

For me, I want the 3.x gamers to feel welcome here at Enworld despite the fact that I personally don't like the edition. This was their site before it was the 4e site.

What say you? Should there be a 3.x General forum?

1) Putting your opinion in black on a board that has a black background by default is a bad way to get your opinion across.

2) If you don't want to engage in an edition war, you should probably rewrite your characterization of 3E players.

3) No, we don't need a 3E ghetto, or a 4E ghetto or even a Pathfinder/D20 ghetto. We need to get past characterizing other people as playing the wrong game and stop rising to the bait when other people do it to us.

In the past I've made the same suggestion on the basis that it would give each side their own "home" where they could be comfortable surrounded by like-minded individuals.

My opinion has since changed, but I can't quite put my finger on why.

How's this?

3.x players should have a place that preserves the legacy of their game that they love so much. Even still, there are many players who will be using both rules sets. I'm sure they will want a place to discuss the 3.x game in general.

Yes, I know there are two 3.x rules threads, but this question is about a GENERAL forum, not a rules forum. A place they can go to discuss anything 3.x (2e or 1e as well, of course, since those edition wars are long dead.)

Currently, the only peace I get in a shared area for the two is the current ban on edition wars. But as many have brought out, they don't appreciate the ban, because some want to be able to make proper comparisons without every thread exploding and putting everyone in a bad mood. With a General forum for 3.x, this could give a place for the diehards of 3.x to go without feeling the need to express their opposition in the comparison threads in the 4e area, and those of both systems that do will be few enough in number for moderators to handle.

Can someone tell me how to start a poll?

What the man said.

The D&D community is split, with some jingoism and some hard feelings on both sides, at least in some quarters.

Segregating people based on preferred edition will only make matters worse, not better.

What's more there is too much overlap so that a good bit of legitimate discussion may never really get discussed because it would not fit neatly into one cubby-hole or another.

And logically (reductio ad absurdum) if 4e and 3x get seperate forums, so should Exalted, Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, Dying Earth, Esoterrorists, Call of Cthulthu, C&C, Mutants and Masterminds, Runequest, Conan, Iron Heroes, Arcana Unearthed etc. That obviously is not a good or workable idea.

So why just 4e and 3x? Because there is some friction there? Because 4e and 3x players are incapable of inhabiting the same forum? I see no evidence of that to such a degree as might warrant DMZs to seperate the sides.

Seperate 4e and 3x forums is a very bad idea all the way around.
