If they had seriously tried to address my playstyle and failed I'd be far more willing to houserule..
Translation: If WotC had done what I wanted, I would be far more willing to fix it?!?
II don't want any second wind even one that is temp hit points. I might have interpreted a temp hit point rule as them trying if they also covered swapping out HD for something more like old school hit points in the DMG. .
At least a dozen people have given you suggestions, ranging from Temp HP, swapping it out for Toughness, or just bloody NOT giving fighter's anything at first level. Yet you keep waving the bloody shirt hoping to convince WotC to recall ALL the printed PHBs to fix your silly corner-case complaint.
IPersonally I really like old school hit points. I don't need a wounds module. I just need slow natural recovery and magic only heals fast. It's always worked for me..
Guess what? I still does. You have to fix ONE CLASS ABILITY and remove HD. THIS ISN'T THE SAME AS HEALING SURGES, which were ingrained into the basic healing system. Cure Wounds works without HD. Potions of Healing work without HD. You have to fix TWO things, not rewrite the whole healing subsystem.
II do not think that the martial camp is small. I believe though that the devs are confusing a.desire for slow healing with an antipathy towards martial healing. It may be that they believe SW being self healing is more acceptable than another PC shouting you back up. They did run away from the warlord at high speed..
The People who want no alignment is not small. The people who want a classless system (or just four generic classes) is not small. Guess what? Nobodies personal crusade is small to them.
And yes, there is a difference between a power that has a physical manifestation (shouting healing of a warlord) and the invisible free hp of a fighter. YMMV.
ISo I do believe they know there is a major problem. They just don't fully understand why. Mike Mearls has said that the playerbase is split on healing. .
1.) People did not like healing tied to surges which always heal 1/4 of your hp. This is gone.
2.) People did not like martial characters healing others. This is gone.
3.) People DID like characters being able to recover a small amount of healing themselves. This was included.
And they have attempted to cater to those who want slower recovery (via the DMG) along with the default fast heal. What they haven't done is cater to the "Nomartialhealingevernotevenalittle1hpperday" crowd.
And if we want to compare anecdotal evidence, I've played D&D with several groups from 1994 to today. Never had ONE of them that didn't handwave "hp back to full". So there.
II also do not for a second think that the internal playtesters have no bias. They are fanboys who likely at least tolerated 4e. If they hated 4e and railed against it I doubt they'd have been asked..
Its a conspiracy! The 4e crowd is silently poisoning the water! Quick, put on your tinfoil hat before they beam mind bullets into your head and make you want to roll up a dragonborn!
INo matter what is said if the game itself offers a path via options to play the traditional hit point way then I'll likely buy. I am at the moment taking them at their word as that is all I have. As such I'm not buying. In fact I'm boycotting wotc completely.
It does. HP is in the game. Cure spells are in the game. Cut the parts you don't want. How hard is that? And hey, lets make all these decisions before the PHB, much less DMG is out.
And I'm sure Mearls will cry into his cornflakes because Emerikol didn't buy 5e! Oh, the humanity.
