As a longtime Planescape GM, I think Faction War's not bad to have. At the beginning of the module, it breaks down Sigil ward by ward and describes new shops and items that can be found. There's a good section on bardic muscial instruments and other novelties.

As far as the module goes, its not bad to know what they were planning for certain NPCs. Certain big movers and shakers from the Factol's Manifesto and Uncaged set their plots in motion. I personally would still keep my games in the static 'Golden Age', after running big plot engines like the Modron March and Dead Gods.

And hey, it's tons better than 'Into the Abyss'. :D

I'm still waiting for A1-4, I3-5, and the Rules Cyclopedia. This will keep me happy/busy for a while though.

Uhm... A1-4 has was out when Eric Noah's site was up. I3 has also been out for awhile.

Well, yeah, I knew that. Actually, I3, I4, and I5 are all available as separate ESDs now. And each of the slave series modules.

However, I'm cheap, and am waiting for the compiled 'supermodules'. That way I only have to pay a one-time $5 to get the entire series.

For example, the GDQ1-7 supermodule is already available as an ESD. So you don't have to buy all seven original modules (unless you actually prefer the original modules, which might be so, since the supermodules do cut a few things out.)

HUZZAH!

It must be mine!

Thanks for the shoutout and heads-up, johnsemlak! :D

Mmmm, I LOVES ME SOME ESDs.

I've been holding out to buy the 1E basic red book. They have the one with the Elmore cover, but I want the one with the Otus cover. Can anyone tell me if there's actually a difference in the BOOKS, besides the cover issue?

This is based on Memory (I had the Otus-cover version, a friend had the Elmore cover, a loooong time ago).

Yes, there was definitely a difference. The later edition didn't have the sample dungeon, the Keep of Something, IIRC. However, the later edition did provide some info on the Karemeikos setting, IIRC. Mystara was much more integrated as the default Basic/Expert setting by then.

I seem to remember the Otus box having one rulebook, plus the module B2, while the Elmore set had a players rulebook and a separate DM book. Also, I remember the later basic set divided the classes into human and demi-human sections (it's just an organizational difference, not significan't really).

As for actualy rules differences, I don't recall any, certainly none of any significance.

I could be wrong about everythign I've said, It's been a long time. I hope somebody who still has the sets posts.
