Silly rules question - any feat that just drives you batty?

Houseruled Deflect Arrows as well. Flaw 1: It's automatic and my dice are hungry. Flaw 2: Sooo, you can deflect one arrow from the big master archer but not two from puny beginners?

Well, I disagree. I think sleeping in armour should leave you fatigued, at least.

Try it. This is one of the few D&Disms we can actually try. No magic, no other species, no getting hit by pointed sticks, etc. Anyone (who has properly fitted and padded armor) can sleep in it.

Sleeping in armor, in my real life experience, is far better than sleeping on, say, rocky/ rooty ground, in a puddle of water, or on a slope. It was far from so bad as to incur a mechanical disadvantage the next day, unless you are going to give those for any time you sleep other than in a bed.

That is a very good argument IMO.
It has some flaws such as the fact that beginners will probably not hit a supermonk that easily... but anyhow, I simply use the 3.0 deflect arrow with refl save and a +5 for additional deflection attempts.

Sure, since in the first case there is only one arrow coming towards you and in the second case there is two! Unlike melee combat there isn't much in the way of feinting that can happen - once the arrow is in flight it is in flight.

And the big master archer can take a full attack and snag the guy with all his other attacks - or use manyshot if he only gets one attack.

Houseruling deflect arrows in that way makes it pretty much useless - it comes up so rarely and when it does you are unlikely to get any benefit from it (what was the 3e standard? DC20 reflex save? My 5th level monk would only have a 40% chance of success even if it ever came up... and nobody has fired at him yet. No wonder he took combat reflexes as his 2nd level bonus feat :))

The only justification I could see for enforcing a reflex save for deflect arrows would be if you allowed an attempt to be made against every missile attack and not just one... but that would IMO be too weak at low levels and too powerful at high levels.

Monkey Grip isn't so bad. A human fighter, grabbing that Ogre's Greatsword and beating the Ogre's buddies with it? Sure. What strains belief is the Complete Warrior's Wield Oversized Weapon... not ONLY would that fighter pick up the Ogre's Greatsword, but he'd wield it with no problems whatsoever!

Saying that, I'd still allow the feat in my campaign. Why not? It's an Epic feat, and Epic characters really should be allowed to do all sorts of things that strain belief, simply because they ARE Epic. That's the point of having godlike characters, right?

I've been thinking of changing Deflect Arrows, not because it strains belief or anything, but the fact that it occurs AUTOMATICALLY just... doesn't fit.

I've thought of making it be a Reflex save DC 15 + damage dealt and then add a +5 for each additional arrow deflected that round.

Although, Snatch Arrows would probably need to be changed too...

Light armor, or some medium armor, I can agree that makes a lot of sense, having slept on quite a few rocky, rooty spots. I have a hard time imagining it in heavy armor, though.
