"ah! und goot und proper opponant!" says Pendrake as he switches out bow for sword (man I hate having to do that!) He is using his dodge against F2.

OOC: a rules question: can you do the above actions while claiming to be in full defensive mode?

Eanos, human monk

As one fishman sinks, Eanos grabs hold of the bridge and moves to take his spot. His hands occupied, the monk lashes out with his feet at the only fishman now in reach.

[sblock=OOC]5' move to take the spot f4 occupied. Grabbing ahold of the bridge, but since I'm not sure if the 'step' itself needs a swim check, I went ahead and rolled one:

Swim check, round 9 (1d20+2=13)

**Dodge opponent now F5**

I messed up on my roll note, though. I intended the attack to be for F5, as well, who's actually in the water and in reach (though I think they both miss either way):

Flurry vs. f5, round 9 (1d20+5=16, 1d8+2=10, 1d20+5=12, 1d8+2=4)[/sblock]

Round 9

Semabin manages to scar his opponent's side; f6 remains fully operational, however.

Pendrake drops his bow (free action), draws his sword (move action), and adopts a total defense position (standard action). Note: I understand he's dropping his bow to the ground. That means if he decides to pick it up later, it will still be a move action, but will provoke an attack of opportunity. If he put it away properly, he'd later be able to draw it without an AoO, but that would require another move action this turn, and so prevent total defense.

Eanos finds f5 impervious to his attacks as he slowly slips toward the end of the combat.

f3 finds it hard to reach Eanos in the water. (Attack: 14)

f6 is evidently thrown off balance by its latest injury; its lunge toward Semabin shows astonishingly poor aim. (Attack: 6)

f8 swims around toward Eanos and tries without success to grab him. (Grapple touch attack: 5)

f2 tries to bite Pendrake but is foiled by the latter's defensive moves. (Attack: 13)

f5 still can't get its quarterstaff near Eanos' vulnerable spots. (Attack: 7)

f7 follows Eanos through the water but seems to be affected by the same bad aim as its comrades. (Attack: 5)

Code:
           f8 f5
water E f7 water
bridge --- f3 f2 P S f6 --- bridge

[next round]
dodge vs F2, defense/fighting normal

Pendrake is now able to fight good and proper!

1d20+9=21, 1d8+5=6

though the hit is accurate, the damage is minimal, only his skill and strength keep the damage from being a simple scratch.

First, apologies for the delay. I will be online only intermittently, and more briefly than usual, at least until Nov 5. So I'm not sure if I'll update again within the next week. But I haven't abandoned this game.

Round 10

Semabin continues to slowly whittle away at the fishman on the bridge. f6 takes a further 2 HP damage.

Pendrake lands a more serious, although far from fatal, blow against the enemy on the other side. f2 takes 6 HP damage.

Eanos has mixed results against a target in the water as he continues to slither down to the end of the melee. f8 takes 4 HP damage.

f3 reaches down to grab Eanos. Starting grapple. Eanos may take an attack of opportunity.
Assuming the AoO fails: fishman's touch attack rolls 9. Regardless of what happens with the AoO, the grapple fails. The fishman nearly falls into the water next to Eanos, but manages to keep its balance.

f6 tries to bite Semabin, but again finds the target too skillful to sink its teeth into. (Attack: 16)

f8 follows Eanos through the water, and also tries to grapple him. Eanos may only take an AoO if he declined the first chance.
Fishman's touch attack: 20
Fishman's grapple check: 12
I'll roll Eanos' grapple check so that I know how to finish the round... 12. Eanos wins the tie and just barely evades the fishman's hold.

f2 tries to bite Pendrake but as usual finds you all too tough. (Attack: 10)

f5 swings his quarterstaff at Eanos' head, striking him on the cheek while following him through the water. (Attack: 21. Damage: 5 HP.)

f7 tries to bite Eanos, again while following him through the water, but can't connect. (Attack: 9)

next round...

Code:
        f8 f5
water E f7 water
bridge --- f3 f2 P S f6 --- bridge

Eanos, human monk

Eanos lashes out as the water-bound assailant tries to grapple him, but can't connect. Having reached a point of open space on the bridge, though, he twists himself upward, trying to arc out of reach of the creatures as he reclaims solid ground, then lashes out at the creature on the bridge.

[sblock=OOC]AoO vs. f8, round 10 (1d20+5=14, 1d8+2=3)

I'm not sure if Climb and Tumble can be combined, to try to avoid the AoO while climbing back onto the bridge. 1/4 speed for Eanos is about 12, and half of that (for tumbling) is about 6, so the math worked out, I thought, and they're both acrobatics of a sort. I figured it wouldn't hurt to roll, at least, and you can disregard if necessary:

Climb check untrained. (1d20+2=18)
Tumble checks to avoid AoO, round 11 (1d20+13=16, 1d20+13=30, 1d20+13=22, 1d20+13=22)

Assuming he gets up in one piece, he'll attack f3 on the bridge, though looks like he misses again:

Attack, round 11 (1d20+6=10, 1d8+2=3)[/sblock]
