Works really well and also helps conceptualise each region for players, in addition to the regional descriptions. Love it.
Apologies for the delay replying; spent three days in Glastonbury, with a bit of caving. Great for gaming vibes on more than one level!
Hope you get to spend more time doing things you enjoy! Anyway, here's Ngo.

So I'm looking to start in on the "Lesser Cities". Specifically Rastavo, Yblisa, and Abikhaz of the Grisian area.

Yblisa I was planning to do as a deepwater fishing community. Specifically because the Khufu Sea is practically shallow, and the Shallow Sea of what used to be Ancais is shallow enough to see the tops of buildings under the water on a clear day. And then Rastavo is even moreso than that.

Remember when we talked about how people think the Afterlife is Islands across the ocean? Rastavo's gonna have charlatans and seers who claim to call the dead back... but also Sailors who claim to have seen the edge of the world...

Lotsa Bells.

Part of Yblisa, though, is I was thinking of putting some Lovecraftian "By the Sea" type stuff there... Only... maybe it could be more Crabs than Octopi. Not 100% certain... More like...

No idea what that creature is, but it’s pretty scary. Wereshark-meets-Devourer.
Bells sounding in the Deep from the sunken cities of the Ancais.
Shifting dunes that devour.
A ghost that cannot leave the water, but can appear below the surface to talk to characters
Cursed fishing village that appears normal....until the fog rolls in from the sea.

Important other idea:

Keep the main regions/cities as pretty "Low Fantasy". But then in the Bestiary section with monsters, have their descriptions include the areas where they exist.

So, like, that Sharkrabundead dude up there would have information in his monster entry putting him in, say, the Shallow Sea region. But the Shallow Sea would only obliquely reference monsters in the deep without any specifics.

Loosely based on the Avars, Bulgars, and Khazars, as well the the Khazaria Khaganate, I present Abikhaz!

Fun note: the descendents of the Khaganate are largely known as the Chuvash people. Chuvash means "Peaceful". Samars, on the other hand, means "Warlike".

Thought for Samarsi Cultural Trait option:

Every Weapon a Tool
Choose a weapon with which you are proficient. Whenever you use this weapon as part of a skill check, you gain an Expertise Dice, subject to Narrator Approval.

Someone who picks a Quarterstaff could use it in Acrobatics for balance, or Athletics to pole vault. Or to search for traps with Investigation. Or use a Longbow for Survival checks to hunt. Or a Longsword on a Survival check to start a fire. You get the idea.

If your weapon is useful for that task, you get an expertise die.
