Sleep & Unconsciousness

Yeah well, just making a point .. controller controls the battlefield whatever the roles of his opposition.
Minion control is just one part of the job, and frankly .. sleep is made of win.

I personally ruled that an attack on a sleeping creature wakes them up. Even magical sleep. This is based on the rules on PHB page 263 on the section Sleeping and Waking up.

But the sleep spell doesn't render you asleep. It renders you unconscious.
You could easily switch call the power for "unconsciousness."
Ok, you can't 'cos it's a lame name, but ... names of powers are fluff, not keywords.

If you read the section I mentioned it specifically says when "you're asleep you're unconscious." And it refers you to page 277 and the list of conditions. Unconscious is what you are when you are sleeping.

But the sleep spell doesnt make you go to sleep, it makes you unconscious, which ends with a save.

Okay, whatever. I guess words mean nothing in this brave new world. The spell is called sleep but it doesn't actually put you to sleep.

When you go to sleep you are unconscious. The game conditions specifically state that sleeping = unconscious. But somehow the sleep spell does not make you sleep...

Good one.

Really, the name of powers have nothing to do with the effects.

Much like a rogue can use sly flourish at range and from stealth .. and stands as much chance of not giving away his position as if he'd made a ranged basic attack.

Wasn't there a section where PCs could name their powers whatever they wanted to give it their personal flair?

There's something to abuse if I ever saw one.

I don't recall seeing one for 4e, but there was definitely one in 3.5e.
It's likely to be somewhere, though .. but I'm not entirely sure if it actually is.
Much like there's actually no rule zero in 4e.
