Smackdownish Hitpoints

That's right, Souljourner. One last suggestion-you can check my math ... If he takes that second level of Barbarian early, second or third level, and Fighter levels from 6 through 19, he still gets the thirteen Dragon's Toughnesses he had before, because he can now take that feat with his very first Fighter bonus feat. He'll be giving up his one Troll's Toughness instead of one of his Dragon's Toughness feats for the Wizard and second Barbarian levels, for a net gain of +4 (including the one point from the Barbarian level average hit points replacing the now-useless 15th Fighter level).

1 Barbarian 1 Fort +2 Feat: Toughness
2 Ranger 1 Fort +4
3 Barbarian 2 Fort +5 Feat: Dwarf's Toughness
4 Paladin 1 Fort +7
5 Monk 1 Fort +9
6 Fighter 1 Fort +11 Feats: Dragon's Toughness X2
...
19 Fighter 14 Fort: something ludicrous Feat: Dragon's Toughness (13th: Fighter bonus feats at Fighter 1 and every even Fighter level = 8, Regular feats at every third character level except for 3rd level = 5)
20 Wiz 1, summons toad familiar

One last thing: I had started to write a post about the extra hit points this character would (briefly) have when he raged. But of course, he can't rage. The reason he can't is left as an exercise for the student. :D

Because when he multiclassed to paladin, he had to change alignment to lawful good. The change from non-lawful to lawful makes him an ex-barbarian. Ex-barbarians lose the ability to rage. :D

Sorry to hijack your thread, but after 13 posts, it was really starting to get to me. (Yes, I'm weird like that. ;) )

Folks, the feat is called Giant's Toughness, not Troll's Toughness. C'mon... out of 13 posts, not one person got it right! :D

/me ducks into an alley to avoid the barrage of thrown objects.

I was wondering if I guessed correctly or not. I didn't have my copy of MoTW handy when I wrote it, and I couldn't for the life of me remember the name of the middle one. Thanks :)

Just add in the 2nd level off barbarian at level 20. Say you fell onto the wagon to become a paladin, then off the wagon to get your rage back. You don't need that extra +1 from Divine Grace... sheesh ;)

That adds on another 40 hitpoints for a really long number of rounds!

For even more hitpoints

I believe a Dragon issue (2 or 3 issues ago) had a feat called Extra Familiar. Someone I'm sure can find out where the Extra Familiar feat came from. I have not seen the feat in print; however it has been explained to me that you get an additional familiar with no limitations. Even if I'm wrong I would like to know.

Give one level of sorceror, and then take Extra Familiar: Toad as many times as you can. As 20th level, you will get 20 HP per Toad, which is more than that pathetic +12 from Dragon's Toughness.

So I'm thinking

Barbarian 1
Fighter 18
Sorceror 1

So your 3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th, 15th, and 18th level general feats will go to Extra Familiar for an increase of 54 HP over the toughness feats +14 over Dwarf's Toughness at 3rd, then +8 over Dragon's Toughness at 6th.... 14 +(8 X5)=54

Also, you get 2 more fighter feats to spend on Dragon's Toughness for +24 HP. I don't have a MOTW in front of me, so is everyone sure that you can take bonus fighter feats and buy the toughness line with them? That may not be allowed.

Then you can rage for +40 HP.

HP Improvement=54 +24+40 (Raging) 118.

This thread is about MAX HP, not max Fort Save, so this is my 2 cents.

Well, if we go the way of the extra familiar, we can now take a gnome without xp penalties, bumping the con up by 2, netting another 20 hp.
