Why does Clark attract all the psychos?

Still thinking about it. Building Clark's pyche as Superman the loner, fear to open up, fear to love. Mmmmmm.

Adam a plant by Lex's father!

My biggest issue with this show is that I am getting pissed at all the metor rock babies, every week!

After the last couple of really good episodes, I thought that this one was a step back. Another FOTW who used kryptonite against Clark. And while I had read about Adam, I really think they could have come up with something better for him. Maybe next week's will be better. That said, I think Tom Welling is coming along nicely as a performer. He's becoming adept at delivering facial expressions that remove the need for words (emoting? not sure of the term).

Greetings!

I had a thought about this episode that I wanted to share.

While I don't like the Kryptonite Villain of the Week (tm), I was talking with my wife about this last night and we were wondering why they are always evil? I mean, at first it was strange why Clark was acting so strange around her and then we remembered that NO ONE who has been "infected" with Kryptonite has been good!

So, this leads me to my observation. I think any human affected by Kryptonite automatically has some mental derrangements added into the powers. I don't think we have seen any mental powers come from green, and red doesn't seem to do anything to humans. So, perhaps in changing their physiology into something that humans can't do, it affects their brain?

This tracks well because Lex, then, was given a minor change in physicality, bald, and the mental instability has taken a long time to manifest itself. Of course, it is our theory that he will end up mad, and not only because of Kryptonite!

A few coppers I had. I liked the episode a little more once I realized that no KVotW has ever been good or helpful.

I did like that Adam was from Lionel. It doesn't completely explain his radical personality shift from last week's episode as well as I would like it to but it does the job. I wouldn't mind if he came back, somehow, and was a good guy fighting Lionel but that's me.

Good discussion! Thanks!

I think the show's creators are using the Kryptonite as a plot element on the build of who Clark will be, power corrupts and it is easy to be evil, you just let go, megamania, god complex. Clark has drawn a line, seeing the bad. Lex's power is from family and money, his corruption is different, Lex wants to be a savior not a god.

No, I think you're right - Green K definitely makes people unstable in this show - it's not just a "power corrupts" thing. It's also a great way to explain all the super-powered evils out there that will pop up.

Poor Clark - can't find anyone to save his life. Most of them just try to end his, instead. :) Though for a second there, I thought we were going to see Clark take some interesting "firsts", indeed... ;)

Actually, that's interesting. I always got this feeling that Clark was a loner, having NO friends, in high school. Probably because he had to learn to control his powers and he lived on a farm. Therefore, it wasn't until he was older, and therefore Superman, that he realized what he had been missing in terms of contact with others.

As you suggest, though, they seem to be going the other way. Having him have lots of contact with people will show him why he must distance himself later from people, in case they would get hurt. Again, LL (any of them) is exceptional and gets Clark to open up but still not as much as he wants.

Personally, I liked it when they had Clark go over the line. I thought it was resolved too cleanly. I also don't like the metaphor of needing red kryptonite to cross the line. I liked it when Clark threatened someone who knew what he was and what he could do. I would rather see him having a struggle to make the choices he has to make, rather than it always being black and white.

That's me, though. I like Angel because it is about redemption, rather than watching a good character always be good. I find the struggle for redemption more interesting to watch, rather than always knowing what is right or wrong.

Good discussion! Thanks!

It's not necessarily a matter of power corrupting. Another way to look at it is that the infusion of power brings to the surface a corruption that was already there.
