Smallville 10-07-2004 [SPOILERS]

Lord Pendragon

First Post
All in all I liked this episode. From last week's promo I was afraid my suspension of disbelief would be destroyed yet again by having the show claim there were fat people at Smallville High, (remember the episode with the fat girl who gets thinner? And Clark saying "I bet a lot of girls wish they knew her secret" in spite of there being not a single overweight person on camera at the school...ever?) Luckily, no such farce. Though what we did get was another Kryptonite-Villain-of-the-Week. Weren't we going to stop those?

My hopes that Chloe is this version of Superman's "Lois Lane" (she did use Lois' name to submit her last articles to the Daily Planet, after all,) are slowly sinking into resigned acceptance that Chloe is destined not to hook up with Clark. Lois joining the newspaper and getting fan letters seems to indicate that she is indeed the future Lois that Clark falls for.

I'm starting to warm to Lois, though. She's not as hot as Kristin Kreuk or Allison Mack, but there is a lot of chemistry between Lois and Clark. Far more than there ever was with Lana. And everyone but Clark can see it...

To me she is hotter than Kristin and at least equal to Allison (who is looking fantastic this season).

I have to agree the chemisty is there between Clark and Lois but then there is less water under the bridge in that relationship, growning up with Clark would have an effect and both Chloe and Lana have known him his whole life. This shows was a lot about moving away from home or letting go. Chloe's role has yet to be defined but it will have an impact.

Lana - boring. :(

My issue with the one, third show of the season and third time we see someone in the shower...are we talking drinking game here! ;)

Yep:
How many shower scenes are there going to be this season? They're 3-for-3! :)

I liked this episode, though like Hand of Evil I found Lana's scenes boring. I hope they give her something interesting to do, because the lover boy scenes and awkward Clark chance meetings aren't interesting to me.

At least now Lois has an actual reason for thinking Clark's a regular guy, since he got beat up in the Makeover Lab. In the other episodes I thought Clark wasn't too careful with how he'd just speed away from Lois...

How crushed did Chloe look at the end of the episode. I thought that scene was very well done. You see the hints of attraction between Lois and Clark, and you see Chloe realizing she has lost Clark again to another woman. The look of pain on her face just made you feel so sad for her. Allison completely nailed the scene and sold it perfectly.

Well, the fact that she's Lois Lane, period, seems to indicate that she really is...Lois Lane. :) I always thought the Chloe-as-Lois theory was silly.

And Lois is far more attractive than both Chloe and Lana, both looks-wise and personality-wise, IMO. As a fan of Smallville from day one, I have to say that Lois is the best thing to ever happen to this show. She lights up the screen.

Have to agree and there is an old saying...Hell has no fury as a woman scorned, which may mean Chloe may become a villian! The Chloe-Lois theory was a good red herring but I still think Alison would have made a good Lois. ;)

Boring, I could have been playing Evil genius. Expect for Clark joining the team and Chloe last scene nothing new here. Oh can any tell me what happen to the black guy?

It has become a totally white bread, Mr. and Miss America show. If I went to a high school where the people in the crowd hall scenes were half as good looking, I would have gone crazy too. of course it on WB where if you have zits you must be crazy or evil.

Ms. Mack did play it exquisitely, yes.

However, perhaps we should note something - In the mythology, Lois Lane has a big thing for Superman, but not so much for Clark Kent. The show has been pretty good at sticking to the basics of the mythology, and if they continue that trend, Lois and Clark are going to know each other for a long, long time before Lois really takes him seriously.

I disliked the episode. A small part of it is being a dad of young kids - This season's Smallville is not a show I can watch with my kids in the room, which, with a couple of exceptions, I could in previous seasons. Enough with the showers.

The writing in this episode was also pretty bad, and I hate kryptovillains, but the plot contrivances regarding the two new characters were quite annoying.

I like Eraica Durance's Lois (a lot) but Lois in high school, or even sticking around in Smallville at all, now that Chloe's been found alive, makes no sense to me. Is there suddenly a big military presence here that keeps her father nearby? Does she suddenly prefer the tiny town she had so much distaste and derision for in the first episode to Metropolis? Is there some reason a public high school suddenly want to hire some twenty one year olds as football coaches and accept others as students? Why, if she has a general for a father, can she not afford an apartment of her own in the likely very inexpensive town of Smallville? Barring that, why not stay with her cousin?

Speaking of her cousin. They started to play that out earlier, with the whole deal between her and Lionel, which she agreed to because of her jealousy over Lana. Nope. Lionel is in jail because of her, and she's walking around free as if he can't still get to her. Lex prevented him from getting at her before in large part because he needed her to put him away. Chloe is no longer as vital to Lex's plans as she is as an object of revenge for Lionel. Next time Lionel goes after Chloe, she dies.

Other stuff:

Jonathan was right about football, and should have been firmer. Clark is going to be miserable having to hold back every second he plays - at best it will be like playing against two year olds and hoping for a real thrill of competition.

Lana's new boyfriend is at least a normal guy. Too bad he's in love with such a boring twit, and an underage (? Was her latest birthday her seventeenth or eighteenth?) one at that.
