Smallville and Angel Premiere

Well, I caught Smallville, but 5 minutes after Angel starts, the satellite guy shows up, apparently THIS is the time my dad chose to switch from Cable to sattelite.

So, it's currently half-past the hour and I'm sitting here missing the ONLY series I watch on a regular basis (With the demise of Buffy).

My only hope is that it'll be on later on a different channel (The satelite guy said they do that a lot with Satellite), but only time will tell I guess.

OH, and btw, the new member, I won't name them but anybody who's paid ANY attention at all knew it was happening months ago. Add that to the fact that the person is in the opening credits AND has been in the previews for the episode for weeks.

BTW, wuts a Tivo? I'm not reall a very tech-informed guy.

Yes I know all about the blonde one's return. But some people might not be so...informed.

In any case I managed to watch 95% of Angel, but missed the first ten minutes. Have to catch Smallville another time. Sad.

Okay, I have a couple of questions, which will be spoilers to people who haven't seen the episode yet. I should preface this by saying I've seen pretty much the whole Buffy series (the last two seasons as they were shown, and the previous five seasons in reruns), but only two previous episodes of Angel, both from last season (the "Willow guest shot" and the season finale).

Questions:
How is Harmony...well, not "alive," per se, but still around? I could have sworn that she was staked on a "Buffy" episode, and she did the standard "crumble to ashes" deal. Has Harmony been around on "Angel" in recent episodes, or was her appearance tonight a surprise to everyone else? And has her return to "unlife" been explained? Or am I just misremembering?

I think I'll start watching "Angel" if only to get my Joss Whedon fix (I never particularly cared for Angel all that much on "Buffy," except for when he was Angelus). I enjoyed tonight's episode, though, although I apparently have plenty of catching up to do. (So, who's the lady who was in Angel's office at the beginning of the episode? It looks like there's plenty of history between them.)

Tivo is like a VCR on steroids. No tape. Instead, it's got a huge hard drive. Gives it something like 30 hours of record time, but some people crack theirs open and upgrade (which is a bit like overclocking your processor -- it _usually_ works just fine) so that they come out with 100+ hours of record time.

In addition to the normal VCR stuff, it also records shows as you watch them so that if the phone rings or something, you just pause your show and come back to it when you get done. I have some friends that always start shows 10-15 minutes late just so that they can fast-forward through commercials in near real-time.

The advanced ones will integrate directly with Dish Network (satellite) or cable. They download the show guides for all 500,000 channels and then go out and record all the shows you tell it to.

You can set it to record, frex, only _new_ episodes of Angel. Or you could set it to record anything with Joss Wheden as a producer/director/etc. Those friends of mine have theirs set to record anything that has Bruce Campbell in it.

If you let it go all out, it starts to learn what sort of shows you like and grabs them for you. If you don't like the show, it learns from that and eventually gives you a custom batch of TV ASAP. No more searching through the premieres every season. At least, that's the theory.

We'll see if I ever get one. I probably will, when I feel that I can by one from "play" money. Since I intensionally limit myself to only shows that have something compelling about them and no more than 4-6 hours each week (the TV literally was not powered on for almost two months this summer), it would be a bit counter-intuitive for me to invest much in one.

Now, if you'll excuse me, since I worked late tonight, I have Smallville and Angel to watch....

This is why I want Tivo! :) Tv that's made for ME!! :D
If you've got Time-Warner cable, you might be able to rent a DVR (Digital Video Recorders; TiVo is a specific implemenation) from them. I'm getting one this way next week.

Nope, she never got staked. Which is good, 'cuz she's my platinum baby.

I saw it, and enjoyed it immensely. (Angel and Smallville). As for Angel, I had my doubts, but I think this direction for the season could work for them. It certainly elevates the Moral Quandry quotient to a WHOLE new level, which is always good.

Regarding the Smallville premiere, it was pretty cool to see Rutger Hauer on screen again. What can I say...Ladyhawke is one of my all-time favorite movies. Also, anyone notice who was listed as doing the voice of Jor-el?
