Smallville and Angel Premiere

The voice of Jor-El was supplied by Terence Stamp, whom Superman fans may know from the second movie as General Zod.

Questions:
How is Harmony...well, not "alive," per se, but still around? I could have sworn that she was staked on a "Buffy" episode, and she did the standard "crumble to ashes" deal. Has Harmony been around on "Angel" in recent episodes, or was her appearance tonight a surprise to everyone else? And has her return to "unlife" been explained? Or am I just misremembering?

Misremembering.
Harmony was staked only once, and she was wearing the Gem of Amarra at the time, so the wound healed right up. She's appeared on Angel once before, and escaped then, too.

I think I'll start watching "Angel" if only to get my Joss Whedon fix (I never particularly cared for Angel all that much on "Buffy," except for when he was Angelus). I enjoyed tonight's episode, though, although I apparently have plenty of catching up to do. (So, who's the lady who was in Angel's office at the beginning of the episode? It looks like there's plenty of history between them.)

No history. This is actually her first appearance.

Smallville was horrible (IMO). I just thought the acting and directing was D&D Movie bad. Lex on the island was lame, Clarks acting was the worst I have seen from the show to date and Chloe's hair annoyed me (I know it is petty). I just couldn't buy Clark's character actions, motivations etc. If this were just a weekly show my expectations would have been a little lower, but as a season premier, yikes.

Angel was a little better, but I think the WH angle completely changes the feel of the show and I am concerned with where it might go. It was still a pretty good episode and I have a lot of hope because of the moral struggles of the characters (as Henry mentioned) and the raw talent of the cast, writers and producer.

I'm with you on this, Toe...Smallville has gotten so...blah. My girlfriend and I sat there during the finale last season saying to ourselves, "Where'd Clark go? This guy aint him..."

And it looks like this season is the same, strangeness with characters suddenly changing personalities from episode to episode.

And don't get me started on the cheesiness of Lex on the island...

Did you forget about the Red Kryptonite ring he was wearing? As for Lex on the island, I liked that alot. The whole bit about that guy killing his father confused me, as it was the same situation with Lex, and the skeleton had a chain with LL on it. But it all being a fever dream of Lex's was pretty good. The only thing that bugged me about the ep was Jonathan getting turned into a Kryptonian (Or getting Clarks' powers), but I'll reserve my opinion on that til I see the next part. Liked the scenes with Lionel, too. I thought the whole time that he was in on it, but apparently not only wasn't he in on it, but he's actually upset about it. Huh. Who knew he cared? ;)

I also liked the Angel premiere a lot. That first couple of minutes was aweome. :D Anyway, I like the changes, and the new direction looks to be a lot of fun so far, and I'm very much looking forward to Spike's addition to the show (I'd spoiler it, but it's not a spoiler, anymore, so why bother?). I about busted a gut at the previews of next weeks ep. :) DAMN, those two are funny, together.

I know about the ring....it's the idea that he suddenly WANTS to wear it that seemed to be out of character...

Don't get me wrong...they have the hooks into me. I still (and will) continue to watch the show...there's too many cool little quirks I like about it. :)

Since this isn't spoiler material, I'll ask: What was it he did last season that was SO horrible? I know about the barn explosion, and it putting his mother in the hospital, but what was so bad last season that he does NOT want to feel any remorse (which is obviously what the Red K is doing to him)?

also, spoil question:
Why are the Kents losing the farm???
I missed the reason for that.

I don't think there is a specific reason, but I could be wrong. They have been struggling for a long time to keep it afloat, and with Clark gone and all of the emotional trauma they probably couldn't kep everything together.

Last season it was really only the last episode his character changed, but people act drastically all the time, especially teens. It is the poor acting of Clark and poor dircetion that hurt this episode. I just did not find Clark believable and it kept pulling me out of the story.

Heya:

Martha also lost the baby. :(

They're clearly losing the farm because having the equivalent of 5,000 farmhands suddenly not being available for doing stuff has made things economically unviable. :)

Take care,
Dreeble

*ignores the smallville stuff since I didn't see it*

But I think it's worth noting regarding Angel that while the W&H thing can be a pitfall, it can also be a new stepping stone towards making Angel unique. I mean compare this cast to Angel in the beginning. Down and out in LA. Barely anyway to help people. NOW he's got everything...and he STILL can't do it quite right. Especially with the moral quadmires being bigger than before. (Anyone remember him fighting to free demons back in season 1?) A lot has happened...and I feel the change that is coming is great indeed. So I say let's enjoy the ride folks. It probably won't last.
