Sneak Attack Damaging a Barbarian...

First Post
Does the Uncanny Dodge and Improved Uncanny Dodge aid the barbarian from taking Sneak Damage if a person uses a Feinting (Bluff skill check) against him? We know a rouge can't get it if he flanks a Barbarian, as they cannot be flanked at that point...but does the ability protect him from the bluff check thing?

Here's the UD and IUD read, they should be taken into account "together":

Uncanny Dodge (Ex): At 2nd level, a barbarian retains his Dexterity bonus to AC (if any) even if he is caught flat-footed or struck by an invisible attacker. However, he still loses his Dexterity bonus to AC if immobilized. If a barbarian already has uncanny dodge from a different class, he automatically gains improved uncanny dodge (see below) instead.

Improved Uncanny Dodge (Ex): At 5th level and higher, a barbarian can no longer be flanked. This defense denies a rogue the ability to sneak attack the barbarian by flanking him, unless the attacker has at least four more rogue levels than the target has barbarian levels. If a character already has uncanny dodge (see above) from a second class, the character automatically gains improved uncanny dodge instead, and the levels from the classes that grant uncanny dodge stack to determine the minimum level a rogue must be to flank the character.

The way I read it is that he never loses his DEX unless he is made immobile, thus he cannot be Feinted...?

Here's the IUD read:
Nope... that is what Sense motive is for.

It saves the barbarian from postional sneak attacks and flanking.
She can still be fooled by a quick blade and a twist of the wrist.

No, the barbarian can still be caught by improved feint and sneak attacked.
But remember, it's not just sense motive to the check.

I concur with Mike that Uncanny Dodge should not prevent Feinting from negating your Dex bonus to attacks.

Uncanny Dodge lets you react if no information is there. Feinting lets the attacker produce false information.

(oh wait, you were talking about improved uncanny dodge, nm then)

Actually you have to take them both into account (since you would have UD to have IUD as a barbarian), which is why I adjusted my original post to reflect that. Sorry about that, all.

Hey A.R., I like that description of "things in perspective". I can see that working as a sensical rules clarification.

Uncanny Dodge ONLY works against invisibile attackers and being flat-footed. Imp. Uncanny Dodge increases this list to include flanking.

If it isn't specifically stated... it doesn't count.

YMMV
