SNL - D&D skit

Well, Mike Myers was/is a gamer and that was his character.

As for the current state of SNL, I don't watch it much, especially since Will left. Weekend Update is still the best part of the show, whoever does it.

Actually, the current incarnation, which is firmly in Tina Fey's control, is easily the best Weekend Update incarnation ever. While it has a few of the clunkers SNL always has in even the best bits, WU is incredibly sharp and biting, to the point of being several degrees meaner than anything else on the show, and thus more funny for its fearlessness.

Jokes like that usually go over the best when they are well-researched and the target has nothing they can say about it than, "They've got our number with that one." When the target can poke holes in the details, satire loses some of its punch.
I don't know what you're talking about. Most satire I'm familiar with doesn't contain a segment in which the target has a chance to answer back.

And I doubt it would be particularly funnny if it did.

While I totally have the hots for Tina Fey, I'm not sure that I would place the current WU above the Dennis Miller days. But then again I'm not watching the show as much now as I was then so take that with a grain of salt.

Actually I think the latest cast is the best since Phil Hartmant, Victoria Jackson, Tim Meadows, Mike Meyers, Dana Carvey, Kevin Nealon, and Dennis Miller. I miss that bunch. They were probably the most talented group in the history of the show.

Don't forget Lovitz & Hooks.

Since that crew left, There've only been two real gems, Ferrell and Farley. And I guess David Spade. Everything else has been dog excrement.

It was hilarious. There are certainly dnd/star wars/star trek guys/geeks writing this sketch.

However it wasnt as funny or as "accurate" as the RENO 911 sketch about dnd guys playing in the game in a park ("im immune to prismatic sprays!").

It always thrills me when pop culture shows a "working" knowledge of my favorite geeky pasttime.

In 100% agreement. And Miller was the best at the Weekend Update.

Yeah, I think Futurama tops the list of shows that did great D&D-related jokes. (And Trek, too).

I tape SNL each week and sometimes watch it -- I'll have to see if I caught it last night. If nothing else, my wife likes a good D&D joke. :)
