SNL - D&D skit

But for some unexplainable reason, d12s are just inherently funnier. Just ask Strong Bad:

In comedy writing, accuracy isn't important. In fact, it's ultimately a bit funnier to get it wrong. But the point is to just get all the jargon out there, because the jargon sounds funny and anyone who's ever played the game once (20 years ago) or knows someone who played recognizes some of the terms, and that illicits a laugh. Plus, "orc" is a silly word to someone who doesn't know what it means. "Druidic monk" just sounds funny too. That's all they were going for.

I suspect that the writer probably doesn't play D&D, but knows someone who does. However, I wouldn't be surprised if the writer did play D&D, and just didn't care about accuracy.

Personally, if pop culture wants to lump us in with Star Wars, Star Trek, and LotR--and put us first, even, I'm all for it. :)

Paris Hilton and Keane were on!? That's a pretty good show. I'm a big fan of both. :D

(Keane's a great band btw.)

You're a fan of Paris Hilton? Or fan of watching her making a spectacle of herself on TV? If the former, I admire your courage to admit that openly without fear of people, say, like me making fun of you. ;)

Maybe it's just "certain onscreen appearances" he's a fan of... IYKWIMAITYD ;)

See - this just looks like it certainly wasn't written by a nerd. People with a passing familiarity of D&D would write better stuff. After a single session, anyone not willfully ignorant knows that the d20 is king...
With all due respect, the skit wasn't meant just for the nerd audience only.

And yes, it's been a long while since Conan O'Brien used to write for SNL. ;)

hey now, don't forget Will Farrell!!! ... he rocked!

of course if he wasn't in a lot of skits on whatever night, then things could be kind of slow.

the one he did with Muriel (sp) Hemmingway where they were parents yelling at their kids was hilarious.

It has to be the latter, she doesn't do anything else.
