So, how bad was your root canal?

Gyaaahhh! Brush and floss, people! Brush and floss! I've never had a root canal. I did get a filling for my last cavity a few years ago and choked on the stuff they use to fill the cavity with. Silver compound? Anyway, that was the experience that turned me off of the dentist. Until then, I'd actually anjoyed it.

my root canal sucked. apparently she thought there were only three roots, but found a fourth during the course of surgery. of course, my anesthaesia ran out half way on account of this miscalculation....

four hours.

of bloody screaming pain.

yeah. that sucked.

How odd that more anesthesia wasn't applied. My dentist is VERY good at doing that. Apparently, having people scream and writhe on the chair is not the way she wants to do business. :)

One time, she was working on a front tooth, and the novocaine hadn't *quite* reached over there. She puts two or three shots in near there, waits five minutes, still hasn't done anything. Finally, she's like "Okay, do you have heart trouble?" "Um, not that I know of." She squirts something on the tooth that stings like the dickens and...then, I feel nothing at all. I gave her a thumb's up, and we got back to work.

The worst experience I had at the dentist didn't have anything to do with a root canal. It had to do with the crown fitting. The assistant kept hammering the crown onto the tooth-stump such that it hurt most of the rest of the day. That actually wasn't that bad, really, and in a way it kind of helped; I didn't eat my lunch until about 4, and so when our friends were late for dinner, I wasn't hungry until they finally showed up about 10:30 that night.
