so how have your gaming groups taken to 3.5?

We have been slowly converting as the news of the new edition has leaked out. Next week is the week we totally convert and it should be pretty easy.

I have to change some of the spells in the game since they still do not have saving throws. IMHO all spells which affect another person should allow for both SR and a save.

So far, one other person has expressed interest in buying the 3.5e PH one of these days. Another person has expressed interest in not buying 3.5e core books at all. Two others might buy 'em, but aren't going to change their campaigns. In general, not a lot of interest in converting.

We are tip toeing into 3.5 ... some changes are being integrated into older campaigns.

Overall in higher level campaigns its much worse to convert thou due to spell and power balance issues. You dont want 12th lvl characters getting attacked by 15/cold iron DR creatures when no one ever heard about cold iron weapons !! :)

One or two lower level campaigns are being converted slowly to check out the new rules. We have been depending on SRD since our books only arrived today which made us reluctant to jump into 3.5.

My group loves the 3.5, but we're all sitting around coming up with ways to turn it into the 3.6. So far, my race revisions have been accepted glowingly, and I have valiantly fended off their attempts to castrate the Monk.

As my newest group consists of all my old (ie. high school buddies) I played with, who have not played 3E yet (and are starting with 3.5), the switch is going fine. They're still trying to figure out what BAB and threat range mean... :) But I will say they are doing a good job of picking up the D20 system.

I've gone over some of the changes with my group and none of them were interested in buying new PHB's or in dowloading and pringting a few hundred pages of text files. Several of the changes were shot down by the group and me so we are staying with what works fine for us now, 3.0.

P.S. Some sick part of me wants to buy the new core books anyway. It's a battle that's tearing me up! But I tell myself that I buy books for SWd20 and don't play it so what's the problem? ;)

My group must be in the minority - we freaking love 3.5! We converted all three campaigns the instant we got the books. We had our first meaty 3.5 fight last Saturday: 5 fire giants and 15 fire-templated trolls verses our party of 7 (average character level 13th). We remembered lots of the new combat rules off the tops of our heads - big creatures and AoOs, big creatures and squeezing through tight spaces, big creatures and trample, mirror image changes, sorcerer metamagic changes, druid changes...the fight lasted four hours and it was a blast!

Yeah, we like the changes. All eight players (DM included) preordered 3.5 months ago in anticipation.

So far, my group is readily accepting the new changes. The Wizard in the group was somewhat against the Haste change (read: he used it every battle) and I tried to show him how powerful it was by slapping him around with a Hasted LOWER LEVEL Wizard that nearly TPK'ed the group. It didn't work. :(

However, the only rule change that hasn't gone over well is the Weapon Size rule. Everyone hates it.

My group is actually looking forward to playing in a 3.5. The game I get to play in, we almost had a TPK and were all planning our 3.5 characters but the blasted wizard saved us all.

sounds like my group. my wizards was always saving the asses of the other player (mainly due to some of their ineptitude)
