I did not really follow the press on this one, just had a day off when it came out and no other games to play so I picked it up so I don't really know what the hype was.

On the 360 it is really very similar to previous incarnations. The gfx are not as good as Mass Effect say but probably as good as Oblivion with much more fast action than either game.

The general structure seems to be like the previous games with a few new things attached. Same humorous radio shows but now you can go to an 'internet cafe' in the game and read peoples funny psuedo myspace pages. Most gameplay is the same though, go get mission and do mission which will usually involve driving somewhere and maybe shooting at some guys. Missions can still be incredibly frustrating and you still cannot save during a mission.

To me Vice City was the previous most fun game in the series because I liked the music on all the stations and the cars were fun. San Andreas did not grab me much as it was too much like real life (with drivebys) and the music was drab. This one I find more exciting than San Andreas but the soundtrack is still pretty heavy with hip-hop which I do not have a taste for. Iggy Pop DJs the classic rock station which is fun.

The police chases have been updated too so you actually can outrun/drive them instead of having to get to a paynspray. That means you can't just camp inside the paynspray with a chain gun mowing down the cops as they came into view like I used to but it also means you can out drive most minor problems.

So far I have not seen any 'stat' kind of things like you had in Andreas where you could make your guy more strong or fast or whatever by working out over and over but maybe it unlocks later?

Probably more than you wanted to know, in general it is a good game but not revolutionary for the series which is to be expected. If you like crime action games and liked the others you will probably love it. My only real gripe is having to play it on a gamepad on the 360, it would look a lot nicer and control a lot easier on my PC. That or I suck.

As for Penny Arcade, it's a comic strip. Better than Ziggy or Garfield by far but hardly constantly hilarious. I mean I love Achewood but I don't expect it to make me laugh with every strip.
