Well, no. Even those with no opposable thumbs know how to wield any weapon. But if they can't hold it, they aren't actually capable of doing it.

Here is another thought...

Mayhaps only outsiders with racial HD must eat/sleep/drink. Those without racial HD don't. Its the same as the weapon/armor rule.

Either way, it seems my DM is cool with it. I just don't know if I would be as a DM.

Similarly, wouldn't it make more sense for Shade to be Humanoid (Extraplanar) ?
