So what would you like from a D20 Future expansion?

Say someone did a book like the d20 Modern Player's Companion. What would you want to see?

I'd like more gear for everyday life - futuristic handcuffs, tools etc.
I'd like rules for boarding ships.
I'd like more ships.

More aliens. One of my favorite SF authors is James White (most famous for the Sector General series of novels). He came up with a lot of really great aliens. I'd like to see aliens like those.

More options for starships (especially FTL drives), and rules for designing hulls.

Non-energy weapons. Gauss rifles, gyrojets, needlers, non-gunpowder/smokeless powder based guns (like electro-chemical).

Maybe some short campaign setting info books (about the size of Horizons books like Spellslinger, etc). NOT something WotC sounds like it is going to do BUT fleshing out some of the intro games would be REALLY cool and now the Dungeon is no longer the place to find this... where shall we go??

I have the old Amazing Engines Bug Hunter and I am thinking about doing something like this in the near future (hehe) but the 2 pages from D20F was not much. I am debating what to do right now, I think I might just write it up myself... I also think I am going to use Grim Tales as the basics for the game instead of Modern (close but Grim Tales has lots of extra stuff and new Talents, etc). D20F did give me some ideas though, mostly for weapons and armor which is what Bug hunters is all about :) Also personally I think that "Synner" should be a template NOT a character class. I was thinking of something like +4 to one physical stat or choice (STR, DEX or CON) or maybe +2 to all physical stats or +4 to one and +2 to one other. Natural Defense of +1 or 2 and/or maybe DR2/-. Low-light vision. +2 Will saves. Maybe the Increased Massive Damage Threshold feat for free. Weapon and Armor Proficiencies due to training. And maybe increase Hit Dice (i.e. increase the Classes Hit Dice type by one, max 1d12). I would maybe start new characters off at 3rd level and the first level has to be their "background" type (maybe have a random chart for that, so you could be a factory worker and not all police and military backgrounds).

I also have a REALLY crazy idea in my head... I sort of like the idea of Star Gate but want to change the background to make it all magic bases, instead of Tech. Mind Flyers, Daemon and Devils against men with P90's and HKMP5's. Something like that might be cool... So the Star Gate does not create a worm hole as much as a stable rift to different fantasy like worlds AND dimensions (like Limbo, Astral space, etc).

More ships. Lot's and lot's of ships. Did I mention that I wanted ships?

Psionics. Loads and loads of psionics rules.

Tons of tech. Cybertech, biotech, robotics, wetware, nanotech, high tech gear and perhaps some netrunning rules.

I'd love to see some settings. Either flesh out some of the ones that show up in the book or create new ones.

Artwork. Lots and lots of artwork. I can never get enough good scifi artwork.

Oh, ships...can't forget the ships.

Netrunning! Virtual Reality! I'd kill to see detailed rules for the digital world. Something exactly along the lines of Stephanson's Snow Crash would be absolutely wonderful!

A sourcebook that fleshes out each of the campaign options in d20 Future from 2-3 pages each to 15-20 pages each, maybe more.

A sourcebook on nothing but starships, starship combat, and building starships of different sizes.

A sourcebook on future technology, from TL6 to TL9 (or 10, whichever is highest listed). This could include a minimal of starships just to wet our appetites.

A sourcebook on future aliens, organizations, advanced classes, prestige classes, feats, talent trees....basically, a really good Game Master's guide to game mastering in the future ages.

A sourcebook much like star wars galactic campaign guide, except Future generic. The galactic campaign guide is one of the best written game master guideline books ever written, and it would be awesome to see one written like that for d20 Future.

I think that if I had those five books alongside d20Future, I would be one very very happy gamer.

i would like to see a set of books that each concentrate on one area of scifi:

Robotics (including androids and robots)
Computers (including netrunning, hacking, building, repairing)
Medicine (including Bionics, Cybernetics, Cryogenics)
Weapons (all types that could exist, realistic and fantastic)
Starships (incuding building and combat, and also starports)

each book would go over how you can implement different parts of the technolologies into your campaign, and how the techs would relate to one another: whether something is made obsolete by another, whether they could coexist, or might be mutually exclusive.

they would designate which pieces fit into what type of campaign: hard scifi, space opera, etc.

some books would have a lot of game mechanics, some less, but all of them would give you the info you need to properly integrate science into your fiction.

put them out as ~50 page PDFs. maybe call them You Got Science In My Fiction!

i have a ton of ideas for a line of books like this, but i don't have the time to make my thoughts into reality.

Got you covered, John. New Psionic rules for Future appearing in next month's issue of MODERNIZED (which, incidentally, will be primarily a Future issue) courtesy of yours truly.

Future submissions for the September issue of MODERNIZED will be welcomed at MODERNIZED@IntrepidHeroes.com

Well thol,

You're pretty close to what my company is working on right now. Keep your eyes peeled, for pretty soon we'll be unveiling our product lineup - all D20 Modern/Future.

I think was is really needed would be a good D20 Future setting. This would be extremely difficult, I think, considering the number of sci-fi universes out there.
But without some "generic" settings to back D20 Future up, it will become unusable for many groups - or at least uninteresting. I know many on these boards like to homebrew and have little trouble crafting their own adventures, but I don`t think that`s the norm.
Without a good setting and some adventures for them, it will be hard for D20 Future to generate a great fanbase...
