The tingling means it’s working!
The FAQ has a whole section on hiding and moving, and how that all works with Spring Attack and Hide in Plain sight.
For the past 3 years I've been playing a shadowdancer that takes full advantage of HiPS. The targets never sees what hit them--literally. He's hidden the entire combat.
Assuming a full 40' move during the attack broken into two 20' moves, the tactic and modifiers are:
1. Move 20' while within 10' of some sort of shadow, hiding in plain sight. Hide check at no penalty. If success, target will not see attacker and attack will be sneak attack.
2. Attack while within 10' of some sort of shadow, hiding in plain sight. Hide check at -20 penalty to remain hidden *while attacking*. If success, target will not see who attacked it.
3. Move 20' while within 10' of some sort of shadow, hiding in plain sight. Hide check at -5 penalty. If success, target will not see attacker.
Most of the time, the "some sort of shadow" is the target's own shadow. The character's other levels inlcude Wild Runner, for fast movement and Trackless Step, so the attacker doesn't even see footprints. Just big gaping wounds appearing on his body from out of nowhere.
It's pretty sick.
