@adamPollack7 does dispell magic effect an arcane ward?
@JeremyECrawford Dispel magic ends spells. Arcane Ward isn't a spell. #DnD
@Glytched Does that mean magical items cant be dispelled either? We've assumed that they could be disabled temporarily with dispel.
@JeremyECrawford Dispel magic can end spells that come from a magic item, but it has no effect on the item itself. #DnD

@Glytched Can I ask for clarification on a casting rule? Can you cast a spell while walking or running, so long as you meet requirements?
@Wizards_DnD Casting a spell generally takes an action, but I'm sure @JeremyECrawford has a better answer!
@JeremyECrawford You can move before/after casting a spell on your turn, speed permitting. The casting isn't part of the move. #DnD

‏@Rohn72 Can Unseen Servant count as an adjacent ally for a rogue's sneak attack?
@JeremyECrawford Unseen servant creates "an invisible, mindless, shapeless force." In combat, it doesn't act as an enemy/ally. #DnD

Clint_Cranford Can a familiar use Help to grant his wiz adv. at range? And does the AT's familiar count as an ally for his Sneak Attack?
JeremyECrawford A familiar can't attack but can take non-attack actions, including Help. And a familiar is an allied creature. #DnD
mackenzie884 Otherwise Eldritck Knights/Arcane Tricksters get Permanent True Strike every round from a familiar helping. but PH175
JeremyECrawford A familiar that is constantly in melee has a good chance of being attacked and destroyed--a risk of using the familiar thus.
nerdimmersion I'm curious why only fire genasi have darkvision when each variety had it in older editions #dnd #sageadvice
JeremyECrawford Only in 3rd ed. did all genasi have darkvision. Originally, only fire genasi had special sight. #DnD

@LebMit Can spellcasters prepare spells not all at once, but leave some "slots" for preparing spells later during the day?
JeremyECrawford You prepare your list of spells only at the end of a long rest. #DnD
st33d Can one’s bonus action be used to deliver a kick?
JeremyECrawford To do something as a bonus action, the act's description must say it can be done as a bonus action. #DnD

@siseru My fighter attack a creature with a magical longbow and non-magical arrows. Is this attack magical ? #dnd5e
JeremyECrawford The attacks made by a magic ranged weapon are magical, even if the ammunition isn't magical. #DnD
JamesMa70265430 Tumble and Overrun: Was it intended to allow these as a bonus action? Does this Nerf Cunning Action? These generic B Acts?
JeremyECrawford Tumble & Overrun in the DMG can, indeed, be used as bonus actions. Cunning Action is more reliable & versatile. #DnD
JamesMa70265430 ty. Thought as a BA it would allow nonRogues to tumble and disengage in 1 turn, just like rogue could do if it wasnt a BA.
JeremyECrawford Keep in mind that Tumble & Overrun include no movement. They just give you permission to move through an enemy's space.

@FWesSchneider What fantasy settings have their main focus continent south of the world's equator?
JeremyECrawford Al-Qadim

I tweeted him months ago about magical rods used as weapons (club/mace?), but never got a reply. Could someone more likely to get a reply ask for me? I'm an AL DM/player, so it's good to know how to handle situations where my Fighter/Warlock decides to swing with his Rod of the Pact Keeper instead of switching to his rapier. The AL version of RotPK has a quirk requiring a Dex save when picked up. Knowing the weapon profile of rods will also decide a potential synergy with Shillelagh.

I think it would be an improvised weapon, so disadvantage to attack and the closest weapon type for damage would be a club.

SatansToast Q: when a PC is hit and goes below 0 HP, does he stop at 0 or is he at a negative number (for purposes of heals, etc.)?
JeremyECrawford Hit points go no lower than 0 in fifth edition #DnD.

@Webfactor8 Can silence interrupt a spell caster? I.e. cleric readies silence, trigger is enemy begins spell casting.
JeremyECrawford As DM, I'd allow a readied silence spell to interrupt the casting of a spell with a verbal component. #DnD
JeremyECrawford At 0 hp, you die if damage = your hp maximum or higher. And damage imposes 1 death save failure (2 if a crit). #DnD
Lord_Sicarious Aren't all melee attacks against unconscious targets crits though? Does that mean those hits auto-deal 2 failed saves?
JeremyECrawford Every critical hit against a creature with 0 hp does, indeed, impose 2 failed death saves on it.
Nockwurst are Dragonborn immune to dragon fear?
JeremyECrawford Dragonborn have no innate immunity to a dragon's Frightful Presence. #DnD
andriecycle Did you see my tweet question about delayed blast fireball and beholder anti magic? Can you control it once inside field?
JeremyECrawford As DM, I'd rule that you can't control a delayed blast fireball while inside an antimagic field. #DnD
KarlDotenswine 4 surprise doesnt gel. cube exmpl conflict w/ "If neither side tries to be stealthy, they automatically notice each other"?
JeremyECrawford The gelatinous cube's Transparent trait makes the monster exceptionally surprising. #DnD

@PinkDiceGM Hat of Disguise -- how do I set the spell save DC for Disguise Self? Does the wearer have to be a caster?
JeremyECrawford Use your spellcasting mod. to set the DC. If you don't have one, use your prof. bonus to set it (DMG, 141). #DnD

@st33d Can one’s bonus action be used to deliver a kick?
@JeremyECrawford To do something as a bonus action, the act's description must say it can be done as a bonus action. #DnD
@MACChaos does that mean you cant just use a bonus action to do any old thing like kick a chair?
@JeremyECrawford Certain game features let you take a bonus action. You don't have a generic bonus action to spend as you like. #DnD
@MACChaos what about a free action? or would that require your action to kick down a table or something
@JeremyECrawford You get a free interaction with one object or environmental feature during your move or action (PH, 190). #DnD

‏@aschlachter1 For >1/2 Cover, can an intervening creature cause these? 1/2 cover rule seems to imply creatures only generate half cover.
@JeremyECrawford A creature, regardless of size, provides 1/2 cover. A DM might situationally adjust the degree of cover. #DnD

@Gandhi39 Can I misty step (bonus), fire bolt (action) and fireball (surge) on same turn? Or need action surge also be a cantrip?
@JeremyECrawford In that situation, the Action Surge spell would also need to be a cantrip. #DnD

@jollymatth Should a Ranger 3/Paladin 2 get Extra Attack, since both classes get Extra Attack at the same level (5th level)? #DnD
@JeremyECrawford That character (ranger 3 / paladin 2) gets Extra Attack upon reaching 5th level in ranger or paladin. #DnD

@ceej_90_ are booming blade and green-flame blade compatible with extra attack? since they are spells i wouldn't think so
JeremyECrawford Extra Attack requires the Attack action, not the Cast a Spell action.
BenjaminMalley Q: for the spell "conjure woodland beings" (pp.226), who choose the conjured creatures, DM or player?
JeremyECrawford The Sage Advice Compendium has the answer: https://media.wizards.com/2015/downloads/dnd/SA_Compendium_1.03.pdf
Tyger_Bryte How would you recommend converting minor gear bonuses like padded boots that used to give +1 stealth? Adv seems too high?
JeremyECrawford A bonus that small in a nonmagical item is rarely worth converting.

@wyndll Was it ever officially said whether a Bard can retrain spells gained through Magical Secrets, or not?
JeremyECrawford A spell learned via Magical Secrets counts as a bard spell, so it can be replaced upon gaining a level later.

@SgtStakas If an enemy leaves my melee range and triggers an opportunity, can I use my reaction to shove and knock them prone?
JeremyECrawford The shove option (PH, 195) relies on the Attack action, not an opportunity attack, but you could ready it.

JParish48 can you make a wis save agnst hold person as your reaction?
JeremyECrawford The intent is that you can't use your reaction to make a save unless a spell or other feature says you can.

@DewarNash could an awaken tree or beast learn a class? Like the awaken tree druid in eberon, in previous lore. Regards Nash
JeremyECrawford A DM could use the NPC guidelines in the DMG to add a class or new traits to an awakened tree or beast.
DMdandanfieldng If a PC is stunned until end of turn and has to make a dex save at end of turn, does the PC auto-fail the dex save?
JeremyECrawford As DM, I let the player decide the order of effects that happen to a character simultaneously.

@Micarafein Great Weapon Master-feat: Do you have to use the bonus action immediately, or could you move and then use it at same turn?
JeremyECrawford The intent is that you could move before taking the bonus action in the Great Weapon Master feat.
Drakus1111 can a character with the charger feat make their charge attack when a mount uses the dash action?
JeremyECrawford The Charger feat relies on you, not your mount, taking the Dash action.

Jesterpunch is there a limit to the number or creatures I can have bound with Planar Binding?
JeremyECrawford The planar binding spell imposes no limit on the number of creatures you can bind with it.

@NGirbes When a monk using "Deflect Missile" catches and throws a projectile, whats the damage of the attack?
JeremyECrawford A missile counts as a monk weapon if thrown via Deflect Missiles; it deals its damage or Martial Arts damage.

@MrStonebraker Hey JeremyECrawford When a creature attacks which starts a grapple (ie smothering carpet) Can the cleric trigger Wrath of the Storm? Thanks
JeremyECrawford Wrath of the Storm is used in response to being hit by an attack, regardless of what that attack does on a hit.

@Il_Gama A question on Polearm Master feat: does the bonus of a magic weapon (+2 halberd) apply to the opposite end d4 damages?
JeremyECrawford Yes, it applies.
Hungryghoast if someone uses Jump or a magic item to jump straight upward 30 feet, do they take 30 feet falling dmg coming back down?
JeremyECrawford As DM, I'd probably roll falling damage if a character jumped straight up and then dropped like a stone. #DnD
Kaseyumland Invis creature failed sv on Faerie Fire. Attacks have advantage on invis creature?
JeremyECrawford That's correct.
