Astrid whispers, "Agreed. We already know them to be hostiles." She picks a target of the enemy and will wait for him to close into range, then launch a lightning bolt at him.
Maka is always less willing to launch an ambush. It goes against his personal philosophy of life and engagement. But when hostilities have already been established, all is fair in war. It takes him a second longer than Wrenn, but he agrees. Wrenn knocks an arrow and prepares himself, mentally and mystically.
After the identification of the collected items, the rodent skull and sunstone seem best suited to Star Wolfess, the lizard skull and milkstone to Maka, the viper skull to Wrenn, and the nightstone to Oorvid.
Since the enemy is a group of archers, when they notice the party standing off in the barren trees, they do not rush headlong into a fray. Neither do they launch a volley from such a distance so as to reduce the certainty of wasted arrows. The group fans out and begins moving toward the party, slowly, each nocking an arrow and taking aim at chosen target, in hopes of firing when reaching short range. Wrenn and Maka may be willing to risk the longer shot. The enemy has no cover.
Seeing that they are outnumbered makes the decision for Maka and Wrenn. Each will take that initial distant shot, hoping to be able to fire again, as the enemy got closer. Maka enhances his athleticism while Wrenn intends to accompany his arrow with a mystical assault.
Before the Nishurin Wanderers have closed anything near half of the distance between the two parties. Maka and Wrenn each launch a long range shot. While both of these shots are accurate neither strikes with enough force to punch through the shirts of the two targets. Once short range is reached, these results change. Maka grazes the hip of one of the other archers, causing some minor damage. Wrenn fires with almost the same accuracy but accompanies his second arrow with his mystical assault, corroding the insides of the target. The combined damage almost takes the Nishurin down. Two arrows fly back at Wrenn in return, while one flies back at Maka. The first arrows are unable to penetrate clothing, but the second arrow hangs in Wrenn’s tunic, having drawn a line of blood across his ribs.
A lightning bolt streaks from the extended hand of Astrid while two arrows fly back in return. Unfortunately, the electric shock causes little damage to the Wanderer. The first arrow in flight does not harm Astrid, but the second one cuts across the top of the shoulder, making a bloody furrow. Star Wolfess waves her right hand at one of the enemies as he draws to fire. The Nishurin flies backward as if smacked with some giant hand, knocking most of the wind from his lungs. The second Wanderer that returns fire does so ineffectively.
Oorvid is the target of two arrows as he runs toward the enemy line. Only the second does damage. Though Astrid, Oorvid, and Star Wolfess are able to physically close on one of the enemies, none is able to effectively strike with the first attempt. The Nishurins try to avoid being pulled into melee. Only Maka and Star are faced with a single opponent. Everyone else is facing two.
Astrid is disappointed by the results of her first assault, but she is undaunted in her pursuit. Running toward the same opponent, she will attempt to sling him to the ground using his bow, while attempting to mystically blind him.
Both Maka and Wrenn intend to target the same two previously shot, in hopes of removing from combat. Wrenn will again attempt to corrode the insides of his target. “Itching it does. Oh, but the burning that follows.”
Despite having an arrow sticking in him, Oorvid is now faster than anyone else in combat. A ripple runs over his skin as brings his axes to bear on one of his enemies. The Nishurin is rather good at avoiding physical contact, but Oorvid manages to graze him with his left axe, cutting through his tunic and into his flesh. Still being double-teamed, the second opponent puts another arrow into Oorvid, who is now showing signs of injury.
Though she is facing two, as well, Astrid acts faster than either, but she cannot manage to whirl one of them to the ground. The blinding flash, however, is quite effective, as the blind Wanderer loses consciousness. Also like with Oorvid, the second opponent puts another arrow into her. Because her first opponent has yet to regain his footing, Star Wolfess flicks her left hand at the healthier of the two facing Astrid. The gust of wind is not nearly as effective as her first attempt, but it is still quite good. The Nishurin rolls head over heels, coming to lie about 4 strides distant. In that time the first regains his feet and fires, unopposed. The arrow bounces off a rib, probably breaking it, but it does not enter her chest cavity. She is only hurt.
Maka and Wrenn fire their third arrows just before the remaining Nishurins who are unhurt fire their second. The two previously shot are slower, yet. Being enhanced, Maka drives his third arrow nearly on top of his second. The damage is significant and his single opponent cannot continue, dropping his bow and falling back to the ground. The third arrow from Wrenn barely grazes a Wanderer, but the corrosive damage finishes the job, while Wrenn takes his second arrow. Wrenn is hurt.
As the Nishurin Wanderers do seem to realize that the tide of the battle now favors the young heroes, they continue to fight.
"I did not throw you to stand so fast!!" enraged Star Wolfess screams to the archer who just harmed her. As pushing them was not very useful, she's now gonna make all the foes to hear an unbearable noise that will cause their ears to blow up. In the same time she draws her tomahawk and runs to the opponent the closest to her and strike him/her.
