As everyone begins his initial action, a bright bolt of lightning streaks from the hands of Astrid directly at one of the enemies, before any other movement could be performed. The visible lightning provokes some unintelligible verbal comments from several of the Nishurins. The victim convulses for about a second, unhinging the readies arrow, causing it to fall to the ground. A second Nishurin is still able to fire back, but the single arrow is deflected by Astrid’s tunic.
At basically the same instant, an unseen pulse of air slams into another Nishurin, throwing him, hard, back against a wall of the structure. He falls to the ground, retaining his weapon but dazed and unable to fire his first arrow, which broke during the fall, anyway. A second Nishurin is still able to fire back. The arrow pierces through Star’s tunic and into her lower abdomen, causing some physical harm.
Almost a full second before the Nishurins can release their first arrows, Maka fires his first. The arrow punches in between two ribs and into a lung. The Nishurin falls to the ground wheezing. Though still alive, he will no longer be able to take physical action. A second Nishurin fires back; but like with Astrid, his tunic deflects the arrow. About half a second later, Wrenn releases his first arrow. It flies with even more accuracy than that of Maka, though terminating with like results, dropping another Nishurin. A second enemy fires back, ineffectively.
Just before the Nishurins fire, Oorvid reaches the center of their line. He knocks a bow aside and cuts across the chest of one of the enemies with his left carving axe. The cut is severe and almost incapacitates the Aedaman. Unfortunately, a second Nishurin turns and fires on Oorvid from only a stride away. The arrow punches through his tunic and buries in his side, causing significant harm, though Oorvid is still able to function.
Two Nishurins are down and out of the fight. Three others are hurt to various degrees. Of the party, only Star Wolfess and Oorvid are hurt. About three seconds of time have passed, but the lighted stones were kicked away, and the enemy structure is once again plunged into shadow, which will give the hostiles an advantage.
Wrenn will fire his bow again, and at the same time, try to acidify the blood of his opponent. Maka will focus his innate talents into making his aim better, as he fires his bow again as well.
Wrenn = 86, 73
Maka = 93 (+94)!!! 91 (+98)!!! = 187, 189 (Maka is on a ROLL!!!)
Since she can, in fact, bend waylines at a distance, Astrid decides that it may be more beneficial for her to aid the vision of the party rather than directly assault the enemy. She snaps her fingers on each hand and points at one of the shadowed enemy, hoping to cause him to glow light a burning torch.
Acting at almost the same instant, Astrid and Star Wolfess who are not physically engaging, engage much sooner than anything else happens. Though the effect generated by Astrid does no harm, it causes some significant confusion in one of the enemies. That Nishurin begins to glow with an unnatural illumination. He begins to pat himself, as if he can extinguish the light, turning in a circle, jabbering quickly to his allies, in something very near to panic. At that moment, another Nishurin slams back into the stone structure, from some unseen force of air, so hard that it renders him unconscious.
Thanks to the improved vision provided by the illumination, the arrow from Maka blows clean through the sternum of another Nishurin. The victim falls, some blood seeping from the wound to the ground as he dies. Just after, the arrow from Wrenn buries into a different target, seemingly causing more damage than it should, as frothy bubbles come from the wound.
Lastly, despite his previous injury, Oorvid swings his left axe in a backhand across the previously injured foe. The second cut slices across the chest, incapacitating the archer. Being in the middle of the enemy, Oorvid takes a second arrow that puts him on the ground. The glowing Nishurin, who is injured, another injured, and the two unhurt Nishurins quickly retreat out of sight, back into the structure.
If no one already did this, Star Wolfess will drag the nearest villain close enough for Oorvid to touch him/her. Then while running after the four escaping bandits she'll cause them to hear an unbearable noise that will make their ears to bleed. Right after that she'll attempt to push Nishurin #2 with wind against a column or the stony floor to finish him. She's gonna stop running when the opponents will too. She'll also try to avoid a potential traps.44
Astrid moves to assist, seeing that Star is trying to move one of the fallen enemies in order to help Oorvid. Aslo seeing her furtive looks and knowing something of her personality she cautions as she approaches. "We should not go after those right away. We will likely run straight into an ambush. We should wait until Oorvid is back on his feet."
Wrenn will continue to cover the doorway that the Nishurins disappeared behind. He does not move. He does, however, speak: "Do not follow them, even a short distance! It's a fool's errand!"
Maka also continues to cover the doorway. He does not speak, but rather, shakes his head slowly, establishing eye contact with Star Wolfess. It is a look that speaks volumes; almost as if he were saying, you are very brave, but do not risk your life like that, you are needed here. It is a look of longing, and also a look of pain; as if Maka had lost someone close to him, under similar circumstances.
