Something missing at GenCon this year?

In terms of swag, I got next to nuthin' for most of the con and then scored a metric buttload right at the buzzer. My wife almost freaked out on me when I was unpacking it, saying "Tell me you did NOT buy all that stuff!?" Most of this was the result of my volunteer work associated with the ENnies booth so maybe some wouldn't regard that as "swag" (in the sense that I had to work to get it) but I would have worked the booth for free.

I'd have hung around with Mark from CMG just because he's a swell guy. But his Aura of Generousity, 15'R seems to attract swag for those within it. Hang out near him and you won't regret it.

As for the "babes of GenCon" bit, this was my first one but there were less there than I thought there would be. But then again, I didn't go to the convention center to see the babes anyway. There are other establisments conveniently located to downtown Indy there for the express purpose of displaying the eye candy. I recommend it.

There was a lack of booth babes at wizard world chicago too.

Say, Mr. games plus, could you tell use more of what that pamphlet said about booth babes? perchance there were sutle hints to discourage gratutious or overly revealing outfits?

Booth babes are a GOOD way to judge how much the geeks are intested in a product or movie. example: i saw booth babes being ignored completely in favor of a LoTR:FotR movie trailer on a small screen a few years back when it was being shown at wizard world.

A friend of mine who I just talked to last night for the first time since he got home estimates his swag at around $650-700 dollars worth between him and his wife.

Of course, by "swag" he's also including the $250 cash prize his wife won for coming in first in some card came tournament, but that's still a lot of swag no matter how you cut it.

He didn't spend much time on the rpg stuff, though--he wandered a lot more through the minis, ccg and board game sections.

I don't have it any more, and didn't spend much time on it, but in short, the babes could be provided by convention services. There was a sheet to inform us of the benefits of a booth babe, but otherwise it was another extra we could pay for.
Just like:
electric hookup
phone line
extra table
extra chair
carpeting
booth babe

I sent that picture to my wife today asking her how come she never dresses like that.

Now I'm mortally afraid that I'll come home after our D&D game tonight and she'll be waiting for me in bed dressed like a stormtrooper.

Just wave your hand and say, "You are not the babe I was looking for. You can move along now."

Hey, that's me! I disagree with the original post about the lack of swag. I ended up with a ton of free stuff after the Wizards die rolling for prizes (I won 4 board games, 2 or three books, cards, minis, etc.), free stuff for doing demos, and raffles, my wife and I ended up with more than $450 of just free stuff. Also, winning $250 in cash from the Perpetual Commotion competition didn't hurt!!

All in all, it was a great year for swag!
